Good Winter Yard Boots!

Hello all! I am after some yard boot recs for the winter. I have just dug out my Le Chameu wellies to find 2 big splits in each boot. Does anyone know of some yard boots that are more durable? must be waterproof and fit a 42/3 cm calf. TIA!

I like my grub frostline boots 😀
 
I have a pair of muck boots Derwent 2's? I think that is what they are called.

They are a unisex style so its very roomy to have a big sock.

Incredibly durable, nothing will take them down. In Scotland they get a lot of use. They are going about 5 years now and show no wear.

Downside is they are heavy.


Last year I bought a lovely pair of Elico lace up yard boots. They were cheap, warm and looked great and very comfortable. Could ride in them. Unfortunately zipper didn't last the season. And got holes where they relaxed around the ankle. Very disappointed but I might be tempted again because they were great in every other way.

I also bought a pair of Lakeland boots from Amazon. 34 quid loved them immediately the fit and comfort wonderful. Unfortunately wore out the sole in one month. That month I was doing about 40k steps daily due to a car issue and not driving which is far more than anyone would expect to do in those sort of boots. They were so comfortable I couldn't help myself. For light use and not miles of rambling they are perfect and for 34 gbp it is good value for the wear, should last a normal situation much longer.

OH excellent. That's quite a review for the Lakeland boots 😅. I would be doing 10,000 steps a day roughly. They would really only be for general yard work and poo picking fields- I am just getting naffed off that boots don't seem to last and more than one season! I wouldn't mind but the Le Chameu wellies were £100! I will also look at the muck boots and Lakeland boots alongside the Grubbs one suggested above. Thanks!

My spare stable is like a shoe shop at the moment, but quite a few have holes in them so I’m always on the lookout for decent boots. I’m a serial boot killer!

Ah heck… that’s a bit rubbish. I just find it so annoying that it’s so hard to get a pie of boots that will last. I’m quite talented with wellies and breaking them- I don’t think it helps I have narrow feet and ankles so I don’t fill out the space!

I've had 4 pairs now, none lasted more than a few months, certainly not a full winter.

Now on Jileon wellies with insoles.Fingers crossed.

My woofwear short boots have been great though.

I had some and hated them! I have given up with wellies, cheap or expensive never had a pair last more than 6 months. I have come to the conclusion I'm too fat, because my legs are huge my feet don't fit in the boot properly and stress the rubber, I have a pair of leather country boots that have stretched and moulded to my feet they are nice and waterproof but the soles could be a bit more grippy.

Oh dear… I know it seems impossible! I admit I have looked at country boots as an alternative. I do have some Dublin River boots that I keep for shows but indeed they aren’t very grippy. 🙄

Ah flip…

I could have a look at those. Short boots are out I’m afraid because of the mud getting rather deep where we are. Short boots don’t seem to be an issue it’s for some reason long boots are rubbish 😅
 
I really struggle with poor circulation to my feet, so my toes go numb very quickly.

In terms of warmth and moisture wicking, my Grubbs were by far the best but they just didn't last.

Le Chameaus last me well (apart from the new pair I put a bloody great hole in by stepping on a nail!! 🤬) but they aren't quite as warm.

Wondering about going for cheap wellies with many many socks as I can't fit much under the Le Chameaus...
 
Skellerup Quattro (or I’ve heard the sport are even better). They’re ugly and they’re heavy, but mine are coming into their 3rd winter, and I wear them at least twice a day over winter. Warm too
 
I just sadly said a final goodbye to a pair of Tuffa suffolk boots which I bought at Badminton 2014
They had a fur lined foot and to be honest it was the lining going rather than the sole or waterproofing which eventually finished them.
My feet were never cold in them and the soles were grippy
 
Grubbs were amazing on keeping my toes from going numb. I've got lots of wool socks to wear and am hoping that doubling up will see me through this winter as the wellies aren't that thick.

Maybe check what kind of warranty they offer? I’ve had mine over a year now never washed them and still perfect

Not very expensive, great tread grip, light weight, comfortable, not heavy or tiring to walk in, think I have had them about a year. No signs of wear. I love them.

I spent about an hour trying different boots on and walking around in them in Mole Valley store! Wanted comfortable and not heavy.

I think its luck of the draw with wellies now. There seem to be good and bad batches made using the same name. I used to use muckboots, but after 4 months the sole came away from the footbed. Got proper boot glue, clamped them, and still the sole peeled off! Theyre warm and comfy if you do find a ‘good batch’!

My generic rubber farmer wellies have a hole in now, your thread is well-timed as i was going to ask for recommendations of comfy long boots 🙂

I was going to suggest the Tuffa Suffolk boots, they're very comfortable and long lasting. I think they come in two calf sizes. They are far more comfy than my Dubarry boots.

ETA... For wellies, the Muck Boot Derwent are excellent, but quite heavy - but equally very sturdy (4WD type of tread!), and with a neoprene upper which has some give, but as they're unisex they're generously sized anyway.

It does seem to be that way doesn’t it? Yes I’m hoping to eek mine out a bit longer but the splits were pretty big so I will have to see but I think I will be needing some very soon too

I have these too, I really like them, they always keep my feet nice and warm and the soles are quite grippy. My first pair lasted me about 4 years and I've just bought new pair. I'm sure if I actually looked after them and maybe cleaned them or even hosed them off occasionally they would probably have lasted longer.
