It’s not been a good day for some of us HHOers. I sadly have another RIP notice.

The elderly JRT had to be PTS this morning. It’s never good when the vet says ‘I wasn’t expecting to find that’. He had been trundling on okay-ish after having his bits of rabbit bone extracted from between his teeth a few weeks ago. Yesterday morning he presented with a very swollen eye, so off he went to the OOH vets for what we thought would be a hay seed or something.

It turned out he had a ‘retrobulbular mass with cystic properties’ lodged behind the eye. Not good news, and the kindest thing was to let him go. He’d been fine on Saturday and gone for his usual walk, so he wasn’t ill for long.

He was a little bugger, but a lovable one. He was 15, and seemed to have been with us for ever. Son no 1 (now 25) was still at primary school when we got him. He remember his teacher saying at the end of the school day, as the children were waiting to be dismissed ‘If you are collecting a new puppy, you may get up and leave now’.

That is really sad for you Tiddlypom; they are such friends to us especially during a long period of family life. What a lucky chap he was though - a good life lived with a loving family and able to leave before life became difficult for him. I would hope for that for every dog.

Bugger it's hard isn't it. They leave a hole behind them - a little JRT shaped one. They are such fabulous little dogs we have been lucky to have them x hugs x

Oh no, I'm really sorry. What a shock for you. Big hugs (i'm not really a hugger but lost dogs are an exception)

Oh I’m so sorry, he sounds like an absolute cracker of a dog.

I remember thinking how cute he was when you posted on my thread the other day.

What a shock for you all xx

I'm so sorry to read this, such a shock for you, I'm thinking of you. I must admit I've given the Squee terrier an extra hug tonight - he was disgusted, if looks could kill I would be a little pile of charcoal on the floor.....

Thanks, all. It’s quite a surprise that he made such a good age and that natural causes took him in the end, as he was always getting himself into scrapes. He was utterly faithful to us all, though.

The house feels very empty tonight. I am in the sitting room looking at the duct taped rip in the carpet where he once shredded it in a mad 10 minutes. He was convinced that there was a mouse underneath it. We never got round to replacing the carpet.

I have made enquiries about a new litter of rough coated JRTs which will not be ready until the middle of Jan. There’s something about JRTs that really gets under your skin. Can’t do any harm to go and look at these pups, can it.

I reckon JRT love is contagious and any JRT would be blessed to join your family. Just make sure you get one before Lev sees your post and reserves the entire litter ❤️🐾❤️

So sorry xxx

Yes you're right there is something about the loyalty and charm of a jrt that trots their little paws right into your heart

I like their assertiveness. Before getting a jrt I had collies. They are very different!
