I went over to see her today at Leahurst. It is the first time I have seen her since she came out of isolation so she got lots of cuddles and scratches...

The good news is that she is eating normally now (pretty much ignored me

) and her poo is now completely normal... that was the most wonderful news I have heard because I thought she still had the diarrahoea. I could also take her for a walk and some grass which she seemed to enjoy

The bad news is that she has an odema (sp?) at the back of her scar where the belly bandage finished... it is like two sacks of fluid but it is not hot or sore which is a good sign. The surgeon said that it is more than likely this is because she was in confinement after the surgery when really they like to get them walking about asap to prevent this but she was in for four days after surgery.

The other bit of bad news is that her front left and right hind legs are swollen. I looked at the right hind and it is no worse than it usually is when she has been stood in due to the lymphangitis she had last year. She has a few scabs on it that I will clean off and get right when she gets home, but they are hosing her legs at the moment and not drying them which will not help. The front right is sore when you palpatate it, and is quite warm. I found a big scab on it when I picked her feet out to take her for a walk but the vet had already gone by this point so will mention it when they phone in the morning. It looks as though she has caught it when she has been getting up from surgery or something like that, and knowing how she reacts to things, her leg could be sore and warm because this has become slightly infected.

The other bit of good news is that they wanted me to pick her up tomorrow... however, she is going straight to the Yorkshire Equine Clinic from the hospital because I am away from 29th and I wanted to make sure there was someone who could walk her 4 times a day and take her for some grass. So I am hopefully going to pick her up Boxing Day morning!!!

Oh what superb news!!! I'm delighted to read this!!! You must be so overjoyed hun!!! The best Christmas pressie you could ask for I'm sure!

It was the ligament... The specialist does not think the winching her up for surgery will have affected it at all which is great and she should have been coming back into work this week anyway, so I can walk her as much as need be now for her colic surgery recovery.

The specialist is going to do the final scan when she gets to the clinic next week some time

Thanks everyone... the odema is not something they seem particularly concerned about and seem to think now she is walking it should go down quite quickly

Just fingers crossed she is ok to go to YEC...

I cannot tell you how pleased I was to see a normal poo in her stable... the surgeon looked at me as though I was a bit crazy when I started filling up a bit when I saw a normal poo

God, I'm crying again just thinking about it!

I don't think I have ever felt so emotionally drained, not even when Han was having Troy. I have been really good and not cried for at least 4 hours

It just comes over me all of a sudden what has happened... My dad got some gorgeous pictures on his camera of me and my ginger girl, will see if he will email me them

Grace wouldn't stop eating while I tried picking her feet out and she wouldn't leave the grass and planted herself when it was time to come in...

Something Carl Hester said in one of his demos is one thing that is keeping me positive... he said every top horse has a story of some sort. Well, Grace now has hers

We must compare colic scars some day....I have to say my girl has shown no digestive ill effects since her surgery...bar one slightly spasmodic colic which cleared before the vet appeared.
Hope things go well for Grace...you'll know when she feels better as she'll start pratting...if that's a verb?
