Grass Sickness in 6 Year Old, Please Read

Thanks so so much everyone:)

As far as I know the field he was in has not been harrowed or mechanically poo-picked and there has only been one case on the yard about 4 years ago at least.
The thing about the bacteria that causes grass sickness is that it can be picked up anywhere, from a single blade of grass, eg at a show, etc.

so unlucky..

I know exactly how you feel. Trying to understand why it was your horse and not another, it's awful and I still struggle to come to terms with losing my gorgeous boy. I really hope that the research they are doing can some day help us prevent this and or find a cure.

Unfortunatly not much is known about grass sickness, other than that it may be caused by disturbance of the ground (our paddock had not been touched though) mechanical poo picked (we dont use this)... But really grass sickness is a bacteria, it could be in any blade of grass anywhere. Thats what so awful that there is nothing you can do.

I lost my horse to sub-acute EGS in 2002. He fought so hard and everyone fought for him, but this is an evil and powerful illness...it makes you feel useless against it...I still support the EGSF and pray for a cure/preventative measure to be found so that no-one else has to go through this with their beloved horses. Bless you, you did all you could, and Paddy would thank you for it. xxx

(((((((((((((((((((((Paddy))))))))))))))))))))))) what more can we say to you, you must still be in shock X

nothing can be said really. But i feel like i have touched greatness with paddy, and hopefully some of that will rub off on me and any horse i own in the future.
i miss him lots already, feels so strange without him, and any horse really. had one most of my life and it feels like there is a massive gap :(

I'm really sorry to hear about your boy. Unfortunately I lost my pony to it and its such a horrible thing. I keep my fingers crossed that one day they can find out what causes it and we can get some thing to stop it as its heart breaking.

Big hugs coming your way xxx

I am so sorry to hear you lost your lovely young horse, must be devastating. I hope that we can find out more and be able to treat these poor horses who are struck down with this terrible illness :(

So very, very sorry to read this. I know of a few horses to die from GS, and it's just so sudden.....

My heart truly goes out to you, shysmum xxx
