I am sitting on the sofa with a nasty case of "school rash" on my left arm/elbow, a numb left bum cheek and a seriously throbbing pain in my right hip. Husband is searching for the walking stick as I type.

He is officially a muppet - or I am - or both.

I've been riding, long-reining and lunging him in walk only for the past week on the vet's orders. Today, I thought I'd ride him in the school and as he was being sooooooo good (although felt a little sharp), I thought I'd ask for a little trot to see if he was sound with me on top. After four or five lovely, level trot strides, he thought it would be far more fun to canter . . . FAST . . . and rather than pushing him on to let him get it out of his system, I tried to bring him back to trot . . . he said "erm no" and proceeded to kangaroo across the school until we got to X at which point he dropped his shoulder and I came out the side door.

Bottom line is he's feeling rather well and simply needs more work. I couldn't feed him any less if I tried . . . he gets a small handful of his Alfa A Molasses Free as a carrier for his bute and a tablespoon of raspberry yoghurt (once a day), a large (soaked) haynet at night and a teeny haynet to keep him going until I get up there to turn him out. He's out on ok grass. He gets no sugary treats, no even apples and carrots. He's just full of himself.

Sigh.

Ouch, you poor thing. School rash is the worst!

Maybe lunging before you ride for a week or so is the answer, it's a good sign that he's feeling better though. Why does he get raspberry yoghurt? I'm sure my boy would love it; is there something special about it?

The raspberry yoghurt is pro-biotic, which supports his gut while he's on bute . . . it took him a while to get used to it but now he lurves it.

My grey donk is also in big trouble. I will be lunging before I ride the next few times.

Hope you're ok. I have no grip in my right arm today. Bit worrying really
