I thought I'd start a thread about greyhounds, as they are often mentioned in the "what breed" type threads, and we've had some threads about various other breeds.

Here are my two, the black one is Maggie, just turned five and the bridle is Lucky, just turned nine. Both girls, both about 26-27kg.

Different characters, Maggie loves to play ball, Lucky will stand and be stroked while Maggie crashes round the garden. Both very well behaved but do very little on command!

Maggie is a bit of a kleptomaniac (ironically her racing name was Magpie...)

They like to sit in odd places....

They are great for playing dress up in matchy matchy

Always the most beautiful girl in the world <3 <3 <3 My Islay, who I adopted aged 5 1/2 - I had 9 very very happy years with her, until she left us last year - she was the most gorgeous dog, quite a little madam who ALWAYS got her own way, I miss her every day. About 26kg, easy to live with, easy to own, she was the one who taught me that I would always have a greyhound

Hoover - it was his racing name! - weighs around 32kg, the softest most loveable greyhound boy you will ever meet :) He had never known anything outside kennels when I adopted him, but he has developed into the most loving and faithful dog you can imagine <3

Flick, aged 11 now, about 21kg and a little darling :) She looks just the same now as she did 10 years ago when I adopted her, she had been a starvation case on the streets of Ireland as she hadn't grown big enough to race - she is quirky, funny, and incredibly sweet :) :)

And the cross breeds:

Amy, theoretically a greyhound cross (although who knows what with!) who was found tied to the gate of a rescue centre and came into Cayla's care - much nagging later she became mine, what a totally perfect dog she is :) Obedient, loving, dedicated - you cannot fault her :)

and the newest one:

Millie the lurcher, again an unknown cross found as a stray who has established herself as a proper member of the gang :) :)

You really will not get a better dog to live with than a greyhound - peaceful, relaxed, easy to live with, they will take as much or as little exercise as you want to give them - they are fabulous :)

LOVE greyhounds, so here is some picture spam of my boy, he is Boots (race name Boots Doyle) he is now 11, he is my absolute world and I hate the thought of being without him, he is always with me! He's a tough cookie and fought off lymphoma and did chemo like a boss, love him to bits and would do anything for him :D

Pro piccies are bought and i have permission to post and are from a photoshoot I booked a month after his chemo stopped, I have them around the house and love them :D

Beautiful pictures everyone. Hopefully be getting a new grey in the coming months so will have to figure out how to post pics when I do.

Enjoyed seeing those pictures thank you, beautiful dogs. I don't have one but its a breed I would love to own in the future.

Ahem I know there are more greyhound owners out there, this thread has not had enough posts :) otherwise I will spam HHO with multiple pictures of the greyhound gang to show what a fabulous breed they are :D

Aww lovely pics, I have always hankered after a greyhound and if OH and I get our house built then I'll be hoping to get one finally :) how do they get on with other types? he has a spaniel and will probably add a cocker. I want something non-hairy though!

Mine get on with everything. They play with dad's terriers, one of whom is teeny tiny at 4kg. Mine tend to ignore anything too boisterous and if at home/a friends/the pub, just lie down as if to say "game over"

Mine didn't get other dogs when I first got home but he didn't particularly like other greys either lol! After a month he was fine with everything inc small furry type dogs, one of his besties is a daxie and they curl up together, his dog walker now wants a greyhound he thinks he is super cool :D

MP you have never admitted this to me! I can offer you one of mine :D Seriously, it depends on the dog - 3 out of the 4 of mine are lovely with other breeds, one is not. But the good rescue organisations are practised at matching the right dog to the situation, so they will find the right one for you :) Lots of greyhounds mix very very happily with spangles :)

brill. When we get into a position where it might be possible I will be back for advice, I'm sure. I've always loved them, they are about the only dogs that don't set me off sneezing which helps! :o As a child I was desperate for one but forced to choose between horse and greyhound.. horse won but I will have one, one day...

OK, first time trying to post pics so hopefully it will work. This was Gerald our huge 40kg boy.
Sadly we lost him a year ago and still miss him like crazy, but thought he deserved to be shared.

Oh MuddyTB what a gorgeous boy :) :) I so glad you shared pictures, he reminds me a lot of Hoover hound..... not just because of his colour, he has some of the same ways of lying/sitting too - and of course the ear thing going on as well :D

I'm not surprised you miss him, it is so difficult when they go

Love to see all of these! Have 2 here currently, one with a litter of 13 pups 😮 they are destined for the coursing field but if they dont make the grade owners will be asked to please bring them back and rehoming will be first priority. Unusually for this game we raise them in the house (coursing and racing people think we are mental!) - the 2 bitches we have had never been indoors at all before we took them on. Yet have never once made a mess/chewed/toileted etc - they are the perfect house mates. They get on incredibly with the other dogs - inc tiny fluffy things. Pretty sure both would even be fine with cats at home, they're that adaptable. Oh and brilliant around the horses too!

Biggest male we have ever had weighed was almost 47kg!! Coursing males often come in at over 40kg

That must have been one fabulously impressive dog kimberleigh, what a size! I did wonder if you were in Ireland when you said yours were coursing ones (your profile says you are!) as we aren’t allowed to course over here any more - we must insist on pictures of the puppies, I think greyhound puppies are just adorable :) :) :)

Oh I've only just discovered this thread! What beautiful pictures. They really are just the most noble looking breed. A close friend had a beautiful, very large ex racing dog when my midget dog was a puppy, and she was concerned when I took dee round (who was probably all of 2kgs at the time), that he might think little dee was a small Furry to be chased.... But no, he just seemed to think the small bubble of white was actually terrifying and sloped smartly off to his bed in the corner to keep a suspicious eye on her. A couple of hours later she had wormed her way into his bed with him.....he really had the most lovely temperament. Wish I still had a pic of it

Yes, coursing is still very big over here! If anyone has an email address they wouldn't mind me sending some pics to and posting for me(?) I have loads to share but cant upload myself!!
