Grim covert footage - man kicks prone horse then punches it til it collapses again

It’s really not necessary to put a detailed description of horse cruelty in the title. You could just call it something like upsetting footage and people that aren’t up to coping with it at the moment, for example someone who had recently had something traumatic happen involving their horse could avoid it.

According to screen shots of a conversation with the RSPCA posted on the antis FB page the North Yorkshire Police Rural Task Force are taking the lead on investigating this, in liaison with the RSPCA.

In addition to being a farrier, he is huntsman to Derwent hunt who are hosting one of the regional National Trail Hunting Day smokescreen demos on September 14th.

Embarrassing…

He should be suspended as a hunt employee pending investigations, and ditto from working as a farrier.

I once brought a retired racehorse back in to work (after several years off) and obviously over girthed him as he went down like that. He only got up once the girth was loosened right off. I am presuming that is what happened here but as others have said there is definitely unanswered questions.

That’s my thoughts too. Hunters will be coming back into work after time off and I’ve known a horse do this before too. Completely the wrong way to go about it though - what a vile human being.

I can’t see the video but I have seen a horse fall down when girthed it’s a long time ago and it did get turned away ( I don’t know what happened in the end )no one ever really got to the bottom of it but my guess would be looking back that it was something like KS PSD SI pain combo .

and here lies the reason I don't sell -
Not saying everyone is like this at all, but the longer I stay in the horse world the more I get disappointed.
Has it always been like this or is it the advent of social media, CCTV and mobile phones that is outing the thugs.
Poor horse
Hope his livelihood is severely affected - he does not deserve to work with animals.
But I have to ask - just why, why would you thump a horse that has just got up, what on earth possess someone to treat an animal like this.
That poor poor animal

Hope H&H run an article on this as well as national tabloids. Anyone know any reporters who they could send the video too?

OK so there are various things which struck me: firstly, why was the horse down in the first place, and why was it down AND obviously saddled up?

Why was it necessary to kick it to get it up? And when it fell down again, exactly what was happening then? Was there an electronic "prod" being used then?

I am guessing it was colicking? But why couldn't it have been handled with at least a modicum of decency and compassion.

That horse was obviously petrified.

The other thing which disturbs me is that possibly the "Sabs" had erected the camera on these premises?? If that is the case then - whilst appreciating the footage they managed to capture is awful - this is concerning.

Honestly, I used to hunt, but saw some pretty hideous human behaviour, genuinely thinking the sabs might now, relatively, be the good guys.

It's a dark haired wearing a body-warmer with her hair tied in a bun who is behind the horse and who takes the saddle off.
He has 'something' - I don't know what - in his hand when he punches the horse in the ribs. I think he takes it out of his pocket just before he does so, his hand is kind of hovering over that pocket until he does so.
Taser maybe? They can be 'unofficially' acquired.

The fact there was a camera there must mean that the incident or something similar had happened before and somebody was trying to get evidence.

I have also seen a horse go down after being saddled and getting up as if nothing had happened after the saddle was removed. He turned out to have a pretty serious sacro iliac condition.

Disgusting behaviour.

So why after getting the collapsed ‘colicking’ horse to jump to its feet by kicking it does he then immediately repeatedly punch it in the guts?

A long standing farrier who has shod in front of the late Queen panics and punches the sick horse instead of removing its saddle and quietly leading it back to its stable? Nope, no one is going to buy that.

Interestingly the Derwent no longer appear on the list of host hunts for National Trail Hunting Day on September 14, although the venue still does. There are 22 venues listed along with 21 host hunts.

Not a squeak to report on whether the horse puncher will face any charges. Maybe he has blagged his way out of it by convincing the police that it is normal and acceptable to punch a sick horse to the floor.

Also no idea how his trade as a farrier has been impacted. His clients are free to vote with their feet, let’s hope that most of them have.

However, he was deemed fit to front his local Smokescreen Saturday display of trail hunting yesterday. The British Hound Sports Association showing how tone deaf they are, yet again.
