I came across an exciting opportunity online to be a groom for an event rider in NZ.

Cant even explain how much i want to do it !! i have looked up on the internet about working visas but cant get my head around all the info.

Does anyone have any knowledge on visas at all , or any expereince of moving away to do the same?

Any info would be greatly appreciated , Thanks.

Just contact the employer, if you fit the bill they will help you get a working holiday visa. If you are in the age range and have not had one before they are very easy to get.

Yeah , the employer says she is looking into it at the moment. Just also wanted to have a look myself incase she came back with any problems.

I thought it would be really hard to get.

Thanks for your reply :)

If you are under 30 you can get a working holiday visa. You'll need a return ticket and about £2k in your bank account. I had a similar visa when I got my Australian WHV was all very straight forward.

My OH is Kiwi so we are going back in March next year. Singapore airlines are good value for money and flights are not rediculously long. Flights cost £1200- £1900 depending on time of year so avoid flying out anywhere near Christmas if you can! Cost of living is high in NZ, especially clothing clothing, food and petrol. So take all clothes/equipment you think you will need because it will cost more to buy in NZ. Finally make sure you give yourself some time to travel its a beautiful country so see as much as poss. Good luck, enjoy Aotearoa.:D

WOW, thats a lot of money !!

I would only be earning $50 a week and have my food and accomodation paid for.

Im 19, God knows where ill find that sort of money from, do you have to book your return ticket before hand then ??

Thanks for Your reply

I'm in oz at the moment. Visa costs about £150, and needed 3k plus return ticket. Very easy to get. Its similar to NZ for ease of getting. Pretty much fll in form online, pay money and it comes through on your computer, doesn't need to be stamped in passport anymore, as its all electronic. There are plenty of jobs about with horses in both countries.

I would personally always buy a ticket up front it will make your life easier going through customs, otherwise you will have to demonstrate you have the additional funds to purchase a ticket and then resist the temptation to spend that money whilst your out there.

$50 per week will probably be fine as pocket money if you are working in middle of nowhere with nothing to spend your money on, but it wont go far outside that bubble. To put in context normal block of butter costs $6-7, loaf bread $3-4, small pre-pack salad $6, cheapest bottle wine $10 typically you can double that. If you were earning £50 per week you could buy same products butter £1-£2 bread £1-£2, salad £2 bottle wine £5. See the difference.

I'd have a bit saved up even if you don't travel just so you can enjoy day trips on your days off.

Wow that is a big difference in prices. Scary Stuff.

The woman i would be groom for says thet she would pay for my days off etc which sounds really good, trips , tickets, food, travel .

Shes an amazing rider too and said she wouldnt mind picking me a horse up to help me train and sell on for a little more money

Despreatly want this to work out shes looking into working visas at the moment , suppose it would just be easier for her to find somebody already over there but fingers crossed !

you can get flights alot cheaper than thisifyoulook around. Whenever i have been away ivealways booked my flights last minute and got some really good deals.
$50isnt much but the experience will be definitely worth it.Itsprobablya low wage to only enticepeople who really want todo it.

You should be able to get a visa pretty easily I would have thought, although definitely check out the immigration website for prices and requirements as it varies depending on the length of visa. I certainly had no problem at all with mine.

$50 a week is nowhere near enough, it's not even pocket money really, I have been thinking about getting an overseas groom and I wouldn't consider any less than $150 per week, plus all accommodation, food etc included.

Just a word of warning that in general horses are not kept the same over here as they are in UK - you might be surprised. Who is it you are looking at working for? If you want anymore information from someone here feel free to ask!
