Sorry need to vent!! My mum keeps coming out with 'why don't you just sell her'

Firstly it was because new beastie wasn't behaving and tonight it was because I was trying to discuss putting her on livery to rest our field. She seems to think selling her would be the ideal solution rather then paying out for livery. Sick of the throw away comments of 'just sell her'

My retired horse ripped my other horses brand new heavy weight rug. When I told my Mum she said why dont you just put the retired one down in case he does it again!

hmmm, im having the same but with my horsebox...failed mot today and needs around £1000 of work - its not even old!! sooo its "well youre just going to have to sell it arent you" :( :( I saved for 4 years for it :( If anyone ever told me to get rid of Dougie on the other hand I'd tell them where to go!!

I'm a Mum and do sometimes say this but as kick up the butt as opposed to meaning it. I pay all the bills tho ( :D ) but we all share the work. Perhaps you are moaning a lot firstly about her behaviour ( horse's) and then about the state of the fields. Not meant as a pop at you but us Mums find it hard to watch not only the struggle but to also listen to the struggle.

This winter has been a testing time for many of us. Tell her you only rant to let steam off. If you did move your horse to livery how would that impact on your finances and time.

I told my girls last week that the coming winter we would own 2 not 5 and I was moving them to livery for winter ! I'll move my girls and their nags to yours and you and I will go live it up on livery.:)

Oh that's pants! :(

They seem to forget that selling a horsebox that has failed it MOT and needs a £1000 of work doing would not be that easy to sell without making a major loss on it.......same with my mare that is being somewhat tricky at the moment!!

Ah, people don't understand why we spend so much money, time and effort on them do they?

If my mum said that I'd say 'would you have sold me if I didn't behave' and accept no further argument that it is anything but the same thing!

Lol, sorry Copperpot that made me laugh although I would certainly not be amused!

I can see your point but I don't think I do really moan about it. I think she says to sell her when the beast is misbehaving because she's worried I'm going to get hurt, which is fair enough I guess but it doesn't really help the situation. I actually play down what she does and don't go out of my way to tell her how our rides went (unless by some miracle they go well) as I know she worried. She is the type that can't even watch me ride my older, saner horse without covering her eyes

Paying for livery will be tough but it's got to be done, our field is totally trashed.

Her logic doesn't make sense, now she's saying I should look into taking a mortgage out on a field next to our house

I did laugh as she knows I would never put him down unless his health warranted it :) she's not a horsey person and was astounded that the new "blanket" as she calls it cost £160 lol. Bless her.

See thats Mums for you ! I am 100% sure both my daughters ( albeit a bit younger) would agree with you. I am at Munstead both days (hopefully) this weekend with my lovely girls and yes my eyes will be covered and yes I will be selling all of them horses and daughters afterwards. Tell her you cant get mortgages on fields... I tried ! Keep rolling your eyes and smiling lol :rolleyes::rolleyes:
