Hi all, I haven’t posted in a long time but can I pick peoples brains please?

My heiniger Progress clippers, all of not very old and done bugger all clipping, have just gone pop, mid clip.

The VERY rude man at heiniger just said on the phone yeah you need a new pair, when I pointed out I’d had them less than 3years and I’ve probably only clipped with them 6 times, he said that was irrelevant and I’d stored them wrong, (obviously in the house in the case they came in is not appropriate!) .

So frankly I am p***ed off. They weren’t cheap. Might as well have paid someone to do it for me!

OK, rant over, apologies.

So can people recommend either (a) some dirt cheap Clippers, that I will not be offended going bang after 6 clips, (b) some pricey but decent clippers, neither of which are heiniger as clearly never going near that brand again or (c) a nice person in Lincolnshire that wants to come and finish my clip! And give my other one his second trim! Or (d) tell me to pipe the chuff down clippers are only meant to do 6 clips before you need a new pair.

Aghhhhh! It’s going out at the weekend, it is going to look a right wolly!

If you’ve made it this far, thank you, apologies for the sarcasm.

I have a set of Masterclip Rangers (I think), I’ve been very impressed with them and they take Heiniger blades so at least your blades potentially could be re-used. I found Masterclip to be so helpful.

I got rid of my Heinigers for similar reasons.
I have 2 sets of liveryman which are excellent - ancient Mustangs which never let me down though I'm probably not going to need them any more, and last year got some Black Beauty battery pack ones which are soooo lovely. I find the tensioning etc really easy too.

very sincere apologies for my reply :D:D:D

last week end I clipped one of mine. I smiled as I took out the clippers, Lister lo volt, clipped, they worked well and I carefully put them away until the next time. I patted them and told them how well they had done. I bought them in 1977 (we lived off grid so they had to be battery) and they have clipped our horses a couple of times every winter since ie 43 years.

Probably this is not what you want to hear, sorry! :p

Thank you I will google them. He was so rude, there was just no need.

Oooh I bet he has the initials DJ ...

I have posted on another thread today the response I got from him when I asked a (perfectly reasonable) question.

For that reason, having recommended Heineger clippers here and elsewhere on numerous occasions, I will never ever recommend them again

My lister clippers were bought 2nd hand over 10 years ago, regular clips on my 3 (including 1 cob that gets done year round). Also occasionally clip if friends beg & give me enough alcohol to make it worthwhile.
Had to have them serviced once when they weren't working quite right. Would definitely buy the same again when they do go bang ?

Thanks paddy555! I’m glad it’s not just me that thinks clippers should last longer than that.

Lister is looking well recommended guys, thank u all. Any particular model of the current ones?

Rowreach sorry you also had a bad experience, just not needed is it!

Was it the same bloke? I feel customer services is the wrong fit for him

I don’t know! I was so busy being outraged I didn’t listen to his name! But if he was an unhelpful, arrogant t*** then yes!!!!

Haha yes maybe a career change........debt collector maybe!?

Mole Valley have an offer on both the corded and cordless Lister clippers which may be worth a look if you have a branch near you.

Have had a set of Listers for almost as long as Paddy's set, they are still going strong though have had a couple of new battery packs. Also Listers were extremely good in replacing a set of trimmers for us so would recommend.

Ooh thank you catkin, will have a looksie. Am popping to borrow friends lister Liberty tomorrow to finish the beastie so it doesn’t look a total pillock at its outing on Sunday. Bless her! So kind. Thank you all for advice.

Sadly I’ve changed the fuse which made no difference and there’s nothing popped out through the reset/overload switch. But thank you for the thought.

I use Lister Laser clippers at work. They are a good 15 years old now minimum. And they still do 5-10 clips a day 2 or 3 days a week on TB's from October to February.

The cable has been replaced once though general wear and tear. Other than that they can not be faulted. They are serviced every April but that really is just a check over and new yearly sticker to declare them fit for use in the work place. They have never needed more than that.

ditto LISTER. Had great service from them over the years inc them replacing the entire motor which had gone pop in the middle of a clip for free as they said their motors shouldn't fail.

Lister are the only clippers that I have had go bang over the years. My most reliable ones were HD Wolseleys, but they were very heavy and noisy.

Is it worth sending them off to an independent clipper 'service man' (can't think of a proper name haha)

We have a great guy called Sean Barrington who has fixed and serviced numerous pairs of clippers for me, 1 pair that my electrician dad couldn't figure out on initial inspection.

Are they not repairable? I can't advise locally but I use Shearease for blade sharpening and they have a repair service (I know as mine broke recently and I was going to send them there, but managed to buy the part & repair myself).

If not I can also recommend Masterclip Rangers - mine are about 8 years old and have never been serviced, they only broke as a cog sheared a couple of teeth so once that was replaced (at home for the part cost only) they were good as new. They aren't the lightest/quietest but for a one/two horse owner I think they're brilliant.

That’s why i rang heiniger yesterday, to ask about the repair service they supposedly offer, to be told they weren’t repairable, (over the phone after I described what happened), how long I’d had them or the number of times I’d used them was irrelevant, and I’d stored them somewhere damp and that’s what had broken the motor. When I pointed out I’d kept them in the hard box they’d came in and in the house which isn’t damp thank you, he just grunted and said well you’ve done something wrong.
Might see if I can find someone local rather than the company that made them! It just seemed the sensible place to go.

Can I suggest you put a complaint about the standard of customer service you have received from Mr Grumpy, in writing i.e email to both their Customer Service email and their Managing Director?
It seems you are not the only person to receive dreadful comments / bad service from this person (suggest you make it clear that it was a man, and the date & time you rang - any decent company will have call recording or be able to pinpoint who it was.
We all know to avoid Heineger now but they can't sort out Mr Grumpy unless they know the problem?

I'll happily draft an email for you if give me the details.

In other news - I have Lister Liberty clippers, the new batteries are the bees knees & their clippers are lighter/smaller than the ones that have a battery in the handpiece.
