I am looking for a special home for our 18 month old German Shepherd, my husband insisted on getting him even though a dog of his size was totally impractical with our lifestyle, he has finally realised that he doesn't have the time/space for him.

He's a lovely dog, I have four children aged between 2 and 9 and he is brilliant with them, he's used to horses and other dogs. He's good on a lead, although we normally walk him without one. He's obedient and friendly, although slightly wary of strangers. He has never so much as growled at anyone.
He's a silver sable and is castrated.

If anyone here knows of anyone that can offer him the home he deserves, please PM me for further information.

Thsbks

That's a shame, he looked lovely in the pictures you posted :(

Agree try his breeder first, any breeder worth their salt (but I do remember they moved him on because he was a monorchid and wouldn't make a stud, correct?!) would offer help.

I would please try if you can, to keep doing what you are doing and rehome him straight from your home to another or via a foster home, especially at this time of year when the dedicated rescues are already struggling/have to cope with welfare cases.
If you have to keep him for another year, until you find the right home, so be it.

I know you are a ways away from Cayla but hopefully she will be on later and may have some contacts for you.

Also MM has contacts for GSD Rescue (but they are already overwhelmed) and may be able to help.

If you're really stuck come back to me and I can link it on FB and PDB.

Gah, why couldn't you have posted this in about... ooh, June next year? I'd have him in a heartbeat, he sounds ideal for our situation but my OH has Put His Foot Down and is adamant that we can't have a second until we've moved into a bigger property.

He does have a point, it'd be a bit of a squeeze and our current garden is tiny and crap but... *sigh* :o

I don't suppose you have a picture (a very, very adorable one) to try as blackmail material? Would he be happy living with a bitch or is he really an only dog?

ETA: CC, you are such an enabler. :p

Agree with others, definitely contact the breeder who will hopefully be able to help. As CC says I can put you in touch with GSD rescue, but they are sadly pretty overwhelmed with dogs at the moment. If you are happy to keep him until a new home is found they may well be able to put you in touch with people . Please keep us updated.

"might" possibly know someone but the timing could be off - she has just lost her longhaired GSD and is currently in bits. She is in Surrey and horsey too so dog would be with her pretty much full time. PM if you are interested.

Thankyou for all your replies, I hadn't actually thought of trying them.

CC- Your right, he was supposed to have been a stud dog but only had one testicle descended, it cost a small fortune to castrate him.

I wouldn't even consider a rescue centre, he will stay here until the right home comes along.
Luci- I'll PM you

He's gorgeous, hope you find an excellent home for him.

OH and I would have had him in a shot as OH wants a GSD, but unfortunately we're renting at the mo and I can't even have my dogs with us :(

I could place him on our website, we are of course a rescue, but not the kind "with rows of kennels", we do have legal back up in place for the dogs we rehome" and we do thorough home visits, obs I am a bit far away but if we for instance generated experienced interest in him it may be worth your travel to being him and meet prospective adopters once their home checks have passed.
Had this been posted a week ago, I would have gotten him a top class home with a very experienced G.s.d. owner but we placed another into their care.
Otherwise PM me and I can give u some poitners on what to cover if you rehome him to a prospective new home.

I lost my GSD on Tuesday night suddenly and am looking for another one asap as my bitch is distraught at losing her friend. Have PM'd you.

I also just this second had a PM about a 5 month old bitch as well. Am really hoping for a dog as never been without a dog before, Honey is a bit of a loony tunes so another loony 5 month old bitch.... mmmm interesting.

I always find it a bit rude/annoying when OPs don't reply to offers of help, or let everyone who took the trouble to comment helpfully know what has happened.

Hope everything has worked out.

I have sent the OP an email asking if she is still looking for a home for her dog.

As of January I will finally be in a position to give a dog a really good home (whoopeeee!!! goodbye office!!) so I enquired about this dog. He sounds absolutely lovely but I don't know if the OP is able to keep him for that long, or if she has already found a home.

Anyway, once we start dog-hunting properly I will be coming on here a lot and asking for all of your advice and contacts :D We will be looking to rehome an adult GSD or similar. We have been dogless for far too long and although I like to steal mum and dad's dog as much as I can it's not the same.

Yes she does and she is only 4.5 months old so looks like a big girl. Hopefully my 12 month old bitch and her will get on.

Just thought i'd add that Zach has a new home with me, he's settled in fantastically and is getting on brilliantly with my other two boys. I adore him already!
