Close but no Cigar. The big black hole is a tear in a Superficial Digital Flexor Tendon. It's the big one you feel running down the back of your horses cannon bone.
This was too much of a hole and also a reinjury of the same area to make stem treatment possible. So box rest, walking then turned away for a few months. The horse did race again.
That is a very close up. I'll see if I can find my wider one with all layers in.

What do those all mean
That's what you feel from skin through to bone on the back of the cannon bone. All those structures make the leg move. Humans have them too just on a much smaller scale. Equivalent to your hand or foot I think.

Yep correct. If you compare them both you might be able to see the difference with no 2 (look for symmetry)

Not quite (I think the lumpy things on the neck are probably its crop as we’d been crop feeding but will admit it did confuse us a bit) the reason for euthanasia was a fractured clavicle (if you look at the horseshoe shape that the wings attach to you’ll see it’s caved in on one side)
