having seen plenty of foaling down mares, this has me stumped, what do you guys reckon?
i have a mare that i unfortunately have no due date for.
has been bagged up 6weeks, not huge but decent size and fairly hard. HUGE belly.

tiny bit of wax.
milk clear and very little of it!
not slackened off behind in the mucle department, but has vulvural (sp!) changes, elongated and slackened.
she has been like this a week now!! no more signs or indications!
what do you think? time to give up my comfy bed for the cctv bed or not!

i would be watching for definite by now, but there is just no milk! and without a due date, im lost!

mine went from clear milk to wax to dripping milk all in the space of thursday evening to being presented with a lovely colt foalie this morning...so yes I'd probably be keeping a close eye on her my mare also bagged up at easter time so not sure how many weeks ago that was

Hi,
I have a maiden mare 354 days and absolutely no hint of an
udder but lots of other signs ,I,ve had a couple of false alarms and I cant remember what my bed feels like .
Is she a maiden ?
Personally I would rather give up my comfy bed than take the risk of not being there if needed ,unfortunately once you make that decision to watch a bit closer ,you could be there a longtime and darent miss a night ,incase it happens that night !!!
so good luck

Hi our mare done exactly the same, she went 375 days, went up and down in size slight wax didn't run any milk though. Then she gave major waxing signs, could have quite easily of missed it but I had the camera on her from due date, got very tired. I would watch now, I checked her every hour and at 11.30pm she went into labour and had had foal by 11.50pm done and dusted. She didn't sweat up I went up to check camera and caught her slightly digging bed by the time I had got my boots on her waters had broken.

Im doing the milk tests as im in the same postition. Dunno how many days she is but ive had her 340 odd now so she is due any day!! we've bagged up for last gawd knows how many weeks, today very full rock hard and warm. vulve is swollen and slack (again) and shes puffing a tad. she keeps digging and rolling but no foalie. AM consultating vets constantly and as long as shes fit and well we are leaving her to do it in her own time. Tonight for first time the calcium changed to almost 250 so i checking through night now. Having a 17 week old breast fed baby isnt helping as juggling him!

good luck id def check her.. better safe than sorry/

Having almost missed my mare giving birth a week early, I would definately go for the watching bit now.

My mare, a maiden only had the tiniest speck of what I can only describe as milk crystals on her teats, no proper waxing as I would have expected.

I was mortified that I didn't start foal watch from that night as the following morning at 7am, she was found to be in labour in the field. Not what I had planned whatsoever. Fortunately it was dry, I don't want to think about how I would have felt if it had gone wrong due to my lack of preparation. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though!
