I used to be decisive, now I'm not so sure...
There is a free lab test voucher for cushings. You can have a free test once a year. The vet fee still needs paying, but that can be combined with another visit, such as vaccination.
I won't be having him tested for cushings.
Because ignorance is bliss? I really do not understand why some posters ask for advice and help and then completely ignore that advice anywayWhat harm will it do to have him tested, for peace of mind if nothing else?
You asked if anyone had any experience, I shared the experience/information I had, you called it a leap...I can see where this thread is heading yet again so I'm out. Every single thread I start these days actually.
Thanks for the comments but I'll go with the people that know him best and that's the professionals: vets, farrier, dentist, staff and y.o. all who are totally bemused at the insistence that he has cushings like they were about EMS which he didn't have either.

This is such an interesting discussion.
I'm a huge fan of blood tests. Daisy (dog) has a full panel run every year. Admittedly testing her may be cheaper overall than a horse, but as a senior dog I want every tool available to me to keep her as well as possible.
Sharing this as well, I was sent it after my gelding was diagnosed and found it interesting as some of the possible comorbidities in the early findings were things we noticed first.
Tendon problems? I didn't know that, how interesting.
.
It's about 80 here for a basic panel; PPID/metabolic panel adds 30 ish depending on lipids tested. So really not very much at all.I think they are actually cheaper for horses AM. I had Ludo tested for various things on a regular basis. One set for minerals was £100 for the blood draw and first test and £10 per mineral. That was 2022.
.
I thinks that's a bit unnecessary, and unkind.OP isn't going to test for PPID. And probably not even if her horse grew a coat like a poodle. For some reason, she is in denial and can't hear you through the sand she's buried her head in.
I have had three with Cushing's. The only things they had in common, were age and foot problems.
It is born of frustration. OP posts for advice, gets advised to test for Cushing's as the evidence is pretty clear to most people giving the advice but refuses to even consider it every time. A short time later, another post, the same advice given and the same response, with the OP getting all upset about it. Surely, if you wanted to help your horse, you would do it?I thinks that's a bit unnecessary, and unkind.
The horse may or may not have Cushing's, it doesn't mean that the OP is in denial.
Is it wise to run bloods? Of course it is, we'd all agree on that.
I really do not understand why some posters ask for advice and help and then completely ignore that advice anyway![]()
Bloody hell! I must be one of the tiny percentage of forum members not to be on UI. I've never been described as a keyboard warrior before. Sounds exciting. Do I get a big sword with the keyboard on it and a mousemat shield? Maybe a tin helmet? And a thick skin. Cool.[Content removed]
I think I'm on UI but I'm not trolling you. I've said before Lari is one of the hho horses I really really like.[Content removed]
I think you are right there. However, since when is it ok for someone to accuse people of being Trolls that are only replying to the original thread purpose? ie giving advice and opinions of the condition mentioned? Its really not on.I think it is for attention. Happens on AAD. Asks for advice, people take the time to try and help. Advice is ignored.
People are only trying to help the OP to help her horse. Beats me why she asks sometimes.I think you are right there. However, since when is it ok for someone to accuse people of being Trolls that are only replying to the original thread purpose? ie giving advice and opinions of the condition mentioned? Its really not on.
The AAD four were given multi day forum suspensions back in Feb for way less than for directly accusing another forum user of being a troll and/or a keyboard warriorI think you are right there. Quite, I was openly called a troll by that poster recently. Again she has called people Trolls and keyboard warriors today. How come admin allow this but ban others for much less?ETA Accidental post, but I can’t really add anything more beyond what has been said already.
Apart from that a separate PPID general info and discussion thread would be a great idea, ihw.
