Dog does as told, stops, handles listens and gets the prize.

More Scout thoughts. Steve thought chemical castration would help, he says if often calms them down a lot and if nothing else will stop him being a sex pest when he’s over excited.
Red is delighted as it’s her he focusses on, partly she smells good because all dogs fancy her but also the others would beat him up. (Obviously I don’t allow this behaviour but they travel en masse in the backs of mules or pickups).
 
Worth trying, not cheap though. I've a few clients who have implants because they have temperament issues or live with entire girls but are show dogs so can't be castrated yet.

My husband is as attached to S’s balls as his own. He can pay as if it were up to me he’d just be done.
 
Writing this also prompted me to get out and train it NOW! I also used our large avocado shaped field pond with a central island to do some straight line practice, over and back, in and out twice, not going round and all building up to a longer blind set in long grass 15m back from the pond, so Freya had to cross 2 lots of water, push back into the field and come back the same route. Ran out straight, picked, ran straight back but at the bank tried to divert round. I stopped her and reinforced my recall, she entered the pond, crossed the island, and the other side of the pond and delivered without dropping. So we had a party and finished there.

I've just entered the first working test since her puppy days, she's 4 now but we didn't get up to much for the last 18 months as I had some heart problems. I'm now fixed and keen to make up for lost time. It seems that Freya is too!
 
We did some hunting, plenty of pheasants still coming into my hoppers so Sassy had 2 off her nose and then sent for memory retrieves on dummies as a reward. Some flushes were rewarded with a "wanger" retrieve (rubber disc that fits in a clay hand thrower), I like these as you have time to fire a shot at them after your flick them out and they float very much like a shot partridge.

Mimi's hunting is still hit and miss, though she is on day 13 of her season having unreasonably come in the day before she was due to show in Crufts! She needs more game contact

I'm not likely to trial or do much apart from the odd bit of beating so I do it for a bit of fun. TBH I have zero clue as to what I'm doing but it keeps his little brain engaged and listening instead of doing a bog off around the countryside!!!

That's fair enough! I have the J regs inn the back of my head all the time
 
I pick up with an A panel judge and he has the worst behaved dogs you have ever seen. He’s old now and says he can’t be bothered to train them any more. But they are exceptionally wild. It’s sort of funny as long as you aren’t anywhere near him. You can hear the J regs being smashed left right and centre.

You mentioned earlier about show dogs having it. What about the shrunken bollock look? Does that not matter? It’s not an issue for me anyway, but the dogs I’ve seen with it almost look neutered.

They still have 2 descended testicles - the rules don't state what size
 
There's 17 deer in the chiller and they've been out since 7am.....just to make my point! And they're lamping tonight
 
Group Training this morning, worked on marking the retrieve and then some blinds, followed by a retrieve in the game pen around live birds, We did ok - we'll never set the world on fire but fun time had!
 
Some WGC practice for us - heel walking in a group (Jesus, I need to put more effort into heel work) and a mini drive with much shot where the majority of dummies were picked by handlers and throwers before dogs were sent for their respective retrieves

Ah but not seeing them is a plus. OH finished hunting on Saturday so now we have to spend time together. I haven’t really seen him since the 1st September.
We’ve been together nearly 30 years so it seems to work 😃
I appreciate with yours being a keeper it’s probably even less face to face!

We shoot deer all year round on a section so it never stops 🤣
 
Group training this morning. First the young dogs did heelwork in a group, some steadiness, 180 memories and finished with a retrieve over the brow of a hill. While we were out we laid blinds for the older dogs half of whom are on the Irish team. Great, except when I got back to the van I didn't have an older dog, I had the 18mo sister to my young dog group pup....!! I don't quite know how I forgot who I loaded up but hey ho. Let the retrievers do their first blind from 175y then walked Saz in to 100y. Decided that she's run memories here before and give her the benefit of the doubt. Out and back in one cast! Delighted with that.

Second blind entailed casting up over the brow of a hill and getting the timing of the hunt whistle right, we had a spotter to our left to signal the dog was in the area. Again, perfect! No hesitation about working out of sight!
