He’s 3.5. I’ve ordered a testing kit for the grass/hay so will find out soon enough what’s going on with that! :)

I’m guessing the panacur 5 day is better for a young horse than equest? Do I have to keep waiting for cold or would a dose now be ok?

His companion - is actually more full of energy than he is. When turned out the older one is the one doing the loony bronks and mad rolls… they seem to play together well and do a lot of grooming etc, but I don’t disagree that a younger play mate would be nice. Another horse is off the cards. Only other horses are old ponies I wouldn’t want him to bully…

I give him a munch block occasionally and he likes playing with that. He also used to have a mirror in his stable but he absolutely destroyed it with his teeth and it was quite expensive! Also has a teddy which he likes playing with / walking into etc. can definitely add more enrichment there.

This could be totally unrelated and just down to his personality, but he does massive yawns and eye rolls A LOT! Naturally I notice this more when we’re ground working / i am in the stable with him.

I would worm now personally. I took advice from a vet a few years back for a pony with gut issues and cow pats and she had me do panacur first and then Equest later in case there was a significant redworm issue.

I have two horses here I can't feed linseed / flax to. One can tolerate a small amount in her balancer but the other can't. I tend to buy l-glutamine from human sites (googling voucher codes first!)

Yawns and eye rolls are a sign of tension. I get them a lot working on sore horse muscles. My Appy with PSSM is very expressive if I have screwed up her management - usually by letting her get cold. Might be worth a physio check over too.

Ok, get that done then.

I’ll order some l-glutamine today, hopefully there’ll be a lot of codes with it being Black Friday.

He was seen by a vet physio not long ago, and is seen frequently anyway - never has any issues!

Edited to add * I think the worst part about this issue is I’m so worried about his diet/mineral balance etc etc and I actually live off 40p packets of microwave rice, tinned soup and the odd banana!!

I know you did a gastro guard treatment for 5 days but that is really not a long time it can take months ot treatment to get rid of ulcers, my friends horse had to have 3 months on it before all symptoms went.

I am not a fan scoping either one of my horses has had to have multiple scopes and treatment involving a scope for guttural pouch infections, he now had some nerve damage in his face ? I would see if your vet will just give you the treatment I know mine would rather than go down the scoping route.

The yawning and eye rolling could be from pain or an issue elsewhere and it might be worth considering getting a referral to a big equine hospital and doing a lack of performance work up.

They will literally cover everything and its turned up some surprising things for me and people ive known over the years, the gut issues could just be a symptom of something else going on especially if his tense all the time that could cause gut upset.

I really hope you get to the bottom of it they are such a worry sometimes.

Wormed with the green Equest last night as no one local had Panacur in stock (will make sure I use it next time).
Would worms in poo be expected over the coming days for encysted redworm? How long does it take for them to clear and for gut health to improve *in theory*?
Just wondering how long I should leave before making additional changes if this isn’t the cause.
