Had the vet due out to my horse today as after 2 months R&R to do a few flexion tests and see if he was sound enough to ride ! Along with some bute and the rest he seemed to be coming sound on his near fore which he has had nothing but problems with since I got him in August.
Anyway went to get him and his friends in from the field and he came cantering over and then slowed to a trot and then I noticed he was lame and this same leg was twice the size of the other !
There and then I collapsed in a heap of tears. I brought them in and hosed his leg off he has cut it open all down the inside. As the vet was coming anyway I thought he shoudl probably check it out.
Vet came and looked at it and thought it was caused by barb wire although we don't have any at all just electric fencing which they all respect.
We couldn't work out how he had done it but it wasn't very hot so he has got anti biotics for 4 days and I have poulticed tonight while he is in !
It has just been one thing after another bruised sole / over reach/ a kick all on the same leg all meaning that I haven't hardly ridden him since I had him!!
I had him on loan for a month before I brought him and he was fine, we were jumping and everything.
The vet said he is probably very bored and as soon as his leg has gone down and he looks 99% sound then I can start walking out which should keep him out of trouble.
When I first got him he was an absolute horror to handle and be around but he has got so much better and made loads of progress, I just want to be able to start riding him !!
Sorry it's long but needed to let it out as have a pretty non horsey OH although he does try xxxx
Thanks for listening
