Soooo, IF racing these poor bloody horses on the roads is ILLEGAL then how come, when they now have televised evidence of them doing it they can't have them arrested for it??? Makes me really rather angry!!!!

They'll be showing them robbing someone next as part of the 'gypsy way'......

I really shouldn't watch this programme should I!

And bugger - HOW did i make a spelling error on my post title? See, that's how mad I am I reckon! :)

My stomach is churned after watching them pound the roads like that, then not cooled off well... I actually have never seen anything like that before :( :(
What good horses though bless them

Because the police are ***** scared of them.........

There is the 'law' and then there is the 'gypsy Law' where anything goes!

Can't see what writing to channel 4 will do, it won't stop it happening, it will just mean that it is not in the public eye and therefore there would be no evidence if the police did decide to act!

The ' best' bit was the gypseys had a false CCTV van!!!!!

Soo cross about all of that scene, and they even openly said it was illegal and so what :(

Beautiful horses though, although of an age that they should gave nothing better to worry than when their next feed is coming.

Seems they treat their horses the same as their children... Very sad

mmmm just so cruel to watch them raced hard and fast like that and give no consideration to the horses legs or other road users, dangerous and just so sad for horses :( :(

I certainly did not enjoy watching that

Their disrespect for other LEGAL road users was disgusting and they had total disregard for the horses. Made me cringe hearing the horses hooves pounding so hard on that road - for 2 MILES!!!! The police need to do something else - I am not sure why they couldn't stop the cameras filming OR ask for the footage as evidence? I don't get it at all. I think CH4 should be asked more questions to be honest - they just seem to condone this behaviour if not encourage it. It's not quite animal abuse yet but some would see it as that yet CH4 seem oblivious.

I've not watched it yet but have heard it is filmed where I live.

They are forever racing down a long straight road we have. It's horrible. One a few years ago spooked at something & ended up face first in a ditch. It drowned. They still race nearly every sunday :(

Locally a man used to "train" a pacer in a sulky on the main roads in Manchester on a Sunday. He was going pretty fast on the tarmac. When he was stopped at a traffic light I noticed the piebald (standardbred I guess) was a stallion. He must have legs like iron, must say I was pretty horrified.

I saw some of the 'gypsy blood' programme a while ago that was truly disgusting. I switched of when they showed cock fighting and promptly reported it to OFCOM. Have no idea what good it did though?

And now moaning that they will be moved on ... Am I missing something? I thought they were called ' travellers '?

Nothing against ' proper' gypsies, but travellers who don't like to travel , and think the world owes them everything, makes my blood boil :(

Well I wrote to channel 4 and said that I hope these "people" were not being PAID to appear :( Asked for no more dumbing down TV! Private eye yes to catch scum that break the law but had enough of this *****e on the TV......

Phoebe, your daughter may have run off with someone but it certainly wasnt a romany gypsy.... We are gorgers you see and gypsy folk dont marry country girls.

mulledwine, you say the horses are of an age where they should only worry about when they are fed... Im presuming you think they are young? Pacers arent ran very young in fact... At 3 and such they dont have the speed or stamina for 2 miles, those horses were older than your thinking they were. I am close friends with a family who race trotters (legaly) so I know the logistics of the sport and know the ettiquet as such.
after a race they are also generally cooled, and people have also mentioned their poor legs, did no one notice the travel boots? And when those horses get home it will be a dry stable, their legs cold hosed and a better feed than most of us could afford tbh, trotters/pacers and racing horses are not mistreated they are in fact very well cared for.

Well, I have written to CH4 as i am sick of them glorifying these illegal acts. I am not arguing whether the horses are cared for or not although i cannot see how hammering them that fast on tarmac can be any good for their legs? What angers me is that CH4 is showing them breaking the law, that's breaking the law. You and me would be arrested for that! I did not watch the other Gypsy blood programme but i believe (correct me if I'm wrong), cock fighting is also illegal yet this was also shown.

I know one that did, cheated on her continuously, got another girl (another gorger) pregnant before beating up his wife and smashing up her car when she found out.

Dooney was bred for trotting. He was weaned st 2 months old and left up a mountain with other very young youngsters in the snow of last year. I also know of horses ruined before they are 2 years old because they have been raced hard on tarmac.

Channel 4 has always used shock tactics and thrives on notoriety. It always has done. I doubt they'll do anything. Maybe worth complaining to someone higher than channel 4? I don't know who that would be though.

How on earth can you say that they are well cared for, when one of the men said that "We're not moving out of the road for no cars" thereby putting the horses in danger of a head on collision? I wouldn't say that was "cared for". I would call it complete disregard for the horses' welfare as well as other LEGAL road users.

Ex racer, I agree , as a gorger myself :), we have had Romany gypsies stop on our farm, totally lovely people, who also raced their ponies almost as shown on C4 tonight .

However they DO have huge respect for their horses ( horses being the word) not babies who have not even developed a full tail, do nit think they are above the law, the first thing that was put on was a sweat sheet, yes, did race, but on suitable surfaces, and did not make the roads dangerous for other road users.

HUGE difference between romanies and travellers

I am going to be controversial... any horse in professional work will have a lot of pressure and concussion to joints, etc. If these horses are racing for money, then they will be very well cared for. My friends in the states have shown me how well looked after bronc horses are, very expensive animals. If you see some hunts they will ride fast on hard/difficult surfaces for some distance. However... I don't think racing on an open road is very safe for any user. I think we need to keep an open mind sometimes before judging... is it worse than keeping a fat pony who will suffer from that?? OK - you can shoot me down now! ;)
