Can't give the brushes full credit as he's naturally a shiny pony...but this isn't bad for a mid September coat! (Hope these pictures show up, I haven't got the hang of this yet). This is the chestnut/bay set of brushes as I didn't get sucked in to the colour thing.

BBP is always so pretty! I fancy a set of Haas brushes but both horses need a set of hoof boots (each! <cries>) and winter feed and bedding ordering first.

Yes that's shiney but as I have been telling myself for months I don't need these brushes I am not taking a second look at your pictures .

Beautiful! Out of interest, would you say your boy is black or bay? He looks very similar to mine who I've always thought of as black but have been told she's dark bay.

I have no idea! I've been reading the brown or bay thread and still can't work that one out! The inside of his ears are coffee colour, but his legs and muzzle are definitely black and his mane and tail are black tending to red. His body can go from jet black to brown depending on time of year/sunshine/feed. He has a silver leg and his belly is flecked with white. I call him black but no idea what his actual colour is.

Exactly like my girl! She has little hobbity ears that look like she's dipped them in henna ;)

Heehee! I did the same, thought it was silly money and I already have a shiny horse without brushing him. In fact if I brushed him with his old synthetic brushes he would look more dusty and grubby than when I started. So I have to admit that with these he does end up cleaner and shinier than when I started for once! I find myself stroking his neck whilst riding as it feels so nice and silky!

I bought just the one Haas brush (Cavalier) for my black horse. It made him far dirtier than he was to start. So clearly I need a second brush in the set to get rid of the dust I brought to the surface :D

The chestnut set has 4 brushes so I guess part of it is that I go over him 4 times rather than twice but still. He thinks I'm trying to torture him, he would happily never be brushed again. He doesn't get grumpy, he's just not a fan of being fussed over, but he's learning to tolerate it!

I guess I would, yes. Not necessarily haas but just to have good quality brushes. For the last few years I've just had the cheap synthetic fibre ones and they just spread the dust around, these ones do a much better job of lifting the dust, and they say that as they are horse hair they do a better job of distributing rather than stripping the natural oils. I didn't think I'd be a fan as he always looks great anyway but I've been won over. I had worked some overtime so splashed out!

My sister has the grey set for her very dirty lives out unrugged Connemara x polar bear and so far we are impressed with the coconut fibre brush (we did a test using her old kit one side and her new brush on the other, if definitely removed more staining. it's not magic but it's not bad!

Of all the hho ponies to judge this on BBP is not the right one!

and yes he is black :p

He isn't the best before and after shot I guess, this was before:

Not exactly filthy. It's like polishing a shiny penny. The after lighting was nicer too. The grey is a much more challenging beastie!

Why would he be black not dark bay Ester?

what would you buy for a tobiano (dark brown/bay with white stockings, white bum and the odd splash of white on neck?

I'd just pick any old set, the grey probably as it has the coconut fibre brush to get stains out. The rest in each set are all just nice brushes, I can't see that it matters which you use.

Muzzle and stifle are never tan, they might fade (with the rest of him) but are never tan even in winter coat.

can we not have grey before and after pics? :D

This may sound a silly question but if you buy a set of Haas brushes do they come with instructions of which one to use at which time or is it obvious like the old fashioned dandy brush before body brush!

This was the least grubby side before:

Which we groomed with his normal 'magic' plastic brush and then normal synthetic dandy brush, spending the usual amount of time doing a quick groom After:

The other side was a bit grubbier (although still not up to his normal standard!) Before:

And spending the same amount of time using a rubber curry comb and then the Haas coconut fibre brush (can't remember the name). After:

The light is a bit different between the two but we felt for a quick 5 minute groom there were fewer stains on his left side afterwards, despite that starting off dirtier.

Not quite as shiny as the BBP but this one is working on his polar bear status early!

They do advise you which order on a leaflet which comes in the box. My sister doesn't use the last of the 4 brushes (it's basically a fleece pad to polish the coat) as hers are getting winter coats and have coarser hair so don't polish up easily, but I love it on my pony (and it's the only one he doesn't mind!). Principle is the same I guess, they go from coarser bristles to lift dirt to finer ones that polish the coat more. I sound like a sales person! Any nice quality brush would do the same I'm sure, I'm just used to cheap brushes!

When he looks brown or red sort of colour thats just normal colour fade, quite often caused by the sun. But he is very definitely black! He is one of my favourite HHO horses :)

If anyone wants to buy HAAS but not only one get the Schimmel. I've never found anything else that even compares.

He will be very pleased to hear he has a fan. He thinks everyone should like him. At burghley ride he would walk up to all the spectators and other horses and expect them to be his friend, he doesn't understand why that doesn't always happen

Personally I'd say he is black too.

I've just been tempted into getting the brushes. They are changing formulation so were selling the old versions off cheaper. They only had the light bay/chestnut sets left and I just happen to have 2 x light bays so it seems meant to be. They didn't have standard set left, only the deluxe or royal so I got the deluxe which in addition to the 4 main brushes comes with a curry comb and mane and tail comb.

I was thinking the other day I needed new brushes as all the others are old and weren't brilliant in the first place. I have a lot of brushes that are either too soft to achieve anything, or are too stiff and mr sensitive skin tb objects. He likes the soft ones which are frankly not so much grooming as gentle stroking.

Has anyone tried using the 'grey' brushes on a bay horse??? What happened!!!

Isn't this just clever marketing do you really need a different coloured set for each horse? Maybe because people are buying the sets they spend more time grooming than previously.

These are good quality brushes but surely ANY good quality brush will produce the same results and yes you'll pay more for a top quality brush than a synthetic one but you really don't need all of the brushes in a set. Good feeding, elbow grease, a couple of decent brushes and a linen stable rubber will produce good results.

You dont need the special colour packs. But they are actually better than ordinary brushes. If anything I spend less time grooming with them. The schimmel is worth having even if you just buy that one. Its the best brush I've ever owned :)

I wonder if he's smoky black. Those pale hairs in his ears and the tendency to fade to brown could indicate that, though I know ordinary blacks can fade to brown too but the cream colour in his ears makes me think smoky black.
