Yesterday I had the vet out, I thought he had just done his tendon (I say just...). So vet did lameness workup to rule out anything else, and he was hopping on a hard surface in a circle in trot but 100% sound in the school. Thats deff not the tendon then. Nerve blocks in foot later - sound again :'(. Vet is almost positive its navicular - scans and x-rays to confirm thursday
. Now to top it all off he has also done his tendon (scans thurs again) and re thrown his splint (all showed up on the same day!!). BUT thats not all, a couple of months ago he was diagnosed with having the lower section of his near hock collaped (steroids to treat ongoing) and he was diagnosed with kissing spine (which the old owner knew but we wont go into that here!!). :'( I asked my vet if realistically they actually thought I would be able to ride him, even just as a hack again - she shrugged her shoulders and shook her head, then said Im sorry :'(.
Dealer has offered me a full refund as I caught him out (with the help of the owners who sent him back beforehand - internet finds you out everything!!) but I have to return the horse so that is not going to happen - he already sold onto me once knowing all the problems this horse has and I have no doubt he will try it again, which is unfair on both the horse and the potential new owners.
Now the issue is that he is not good in the field (did tendon and splint in the field, decided he was bored at 6am after only being out 10 hrs and went mental) so I cant just retire him and stick him in a field, I have to realistically think about PTS. If I had to give him back for my money I would arrange with the dealer to either PTS whilst he was with me, or take him to his yard where a vet will be waiting on site :'( - I wouldnt leave my baby until its over as dont want him being sold on, this dealer although famous is ruthless and not what you would expect of a man who is so highly thought of by a lot of people!! But he is fully insured for loss of use so could go down that route as well. What would you all do??
But horses are my life, I cant see myself without one, so the next thing is do any of you lovely people want to help me look. 16.2+ to carry 12st (on a diet
!). Im 5ft 9. Currently own a 17hh belgum warmblood and hes great till he broke!
Looking for an allrounder sort, 5+ yrs old, mare or gelding (but no marish mares) to do RC level and unaffiliated level riding at first with the potential to do more. Budget of 7k.
I have owned horses for 10 yrs (am 20 now) and just need one positive one (first was a lunatic, second broke his leg and had to be pts, third had kissing spine and wobbles, fourth was a 14.3 cob to get my confidence back after first and third truly tried to kill me and fith is my gorgeous boy now with navicular and kissing spine!). Will be taken up to university with me, competed and ridden regularly and I would bring the one other girl I would have as a sharer (great friend of mine) to veiw so the owners can meet the two people that would ride any new horse. Also take instructor back, always have a 5 stage vetting with X-rays (yes I did for current horse - vets now given a full refund as "cant" produce the x-rays - stupidly used dealers vet, always using own from now on!!)
If you hear of anything let me know, sounds odd but I need another to move onto. They have a 5* home with me etc. P.S. Love jhowards mare before people suggest it - just wish she wasnt in Devon! Im in watford so will travel 70 miles any direction from there, or up at uni on the notts/leics border (at notts uni on sutton bonington camups!), again 70 miles from there.
Sorry for the uber long thread! Thank you
