Has anyone clipped this autumn yet?

My lovely shiny sleek cob type has turned into a yak who sheds a pile of hair every time I groom him! Am I mad to think of clipping him this early in the year?

Gratuitous pic because I think he is gorgeous :) :)

clipped both of mine today, Millie looked like a woolly mammoth and Kira was just fuzzy round the edges, but wanted to do them both at once to reduce the number of times I have to get horribly itchy

I haven't clipped mine yet as she is still moulting and hasn't got much of a winter coat yet, but she got horribly sweaty in our lesson today, so I will probably do her next weekend. Plenty at our yard have been done already, but mostly trace clips, not too drastic.

My daughter did our 22 year old boy this morning - the first time in his life that he stood (albeit for only a trace clip) without someone else with him. Silly old sod! Used to need sedation and a twitch!

I'm hoping to hold out til the end of October, when he'll be doped for the farrier! He's great to clip, but doesn't like having his head done, and I want to get everything off the first time.
He's sweating like a fat lad in a cake shop when he works at the moment though, so I may have to do him sooner

My girl was clipped on Friday - just the front end off really, but she was steaming after our lesson on Thursday and when I rode yesterday, even though I was just as warm, she didn't sweat up. Would have left it an extra couple of weeks, but we have a few competitions coming up and it needed to be done.

Thanks for all the replies, you have made me feel relieved :) You are welcome to admire Jensen and tell me how stunning he is of course :p :) :)

Ok, I'll bite - Jenson looks gorgeous as always :o

Can't add anything on the clipping front though as dont clip mine, he doesn't grow much coat and as long as I keep him fit he doesn't sweat too much :p

He is stunning and I am wildly jealous as my cob looks like she's been pulled out of a bin in comparison

I clipped our cob last week and my warmblood today. The cob almost overheated my clippers he was so fluffy and the warmblood could have waited a little longer but a busy few weeks coming up. I did find it odd to clip everything off and then turn out for the afternoon in a fly rug, strange weather!

Nope, Coblet was clipped ages ago by this time last year but he's having winter off so is allowed to get hairy. My TB has very little hair yet so I aim to leave it as long as possible!

Did mine Tuesday. He was so woolly I couldn't bare it. Hopefully all these early clips isn't a sign of things to come this winter!
