trying plan any sort of competition / training schedule. I managed to keep my boy in work until last Sunday (well lunging, steady hacks and the odd bit of schooling ground permitting) but now school has completely disapppeared. Had a test clinic booked at Frys for the beginning of Feb but not that optimisitc he'll actuallly have done any work before then given the damm weather!!

Yep, once you decide not to bother trying it's OK really!

I'm quite enjoying having free time in the evenings etc at the moment and my horse is having a nice long holiday - first in 5 years

Getting there! I alternate between thinking, that's it he is having the rest of the winter off (and so am i!)... to ... I will just keep him ticking over and hack at weekends.... and then thinking... no must continue to get out of bed and on horse before it is light in order to be ready for showjumping/eventing/hunting which is inevitably cancelled anyway.

Particularly annoying as it didnt rain in Essex for almost 3 months last summer, so missed loads of XC because of hard ground then too! That seems like a long time ago now!!

Its really depressing me have not ridden my youngster for about a week and before that only a few times since the week before xmas.
I HATE snow. It going to take so long to get back to proper work/fitness again. Was planning on doing the Connemara breed dressage end of Feb but am beginning to give up all hope.

i have not ridden the 4 year old since 16th december, i have resigned myself to the fact that i will have to rebrake her in the spring. some of the liveries dug 2ft of snow off the arena today only to find they couldn't shift the sheet ice and YO wont allow them to grit it (apparently grit and sand dont mix) how disheartening!

I am dithering between giving up and getting frustrated, I think I should just give up and stop beating myself up. I am annoyed because I had upped George's exercise to try and keep his weight in check and was pleased that he had lost 15kg by the end of Dec. I managed to ride up to Sunday and my YM lunged him on tues, but hope for any more exercise in the near future seems unlikely. But, like an eejit I have entered a dressage comp on the 17th - can't see that happening just hope I don't loose my money.

Well i have given up completley on one of my beds... the straw one - all i have done is skip and put fresh on - and i love my beds to be perfect and not a "bit" in them. Combination of them being in for 19 hours a day, having 3 horses to do and having a cold.

Cant wait to get to yard tomorrow to do a proper muck out.... but it will be the same by next weekend if the weather man is to be believed AND i am fed up of trying to ride at 6am in a morn (we have an indoor school - so glad even though it is not very big) - even though OH is getting up to defrost car - i just cant keep getting up at 5 am - i am shattered

Yes - was meant to be taking him to a clinic tomorrow and keeping his fitness going was difficult as outdoor school frozen for weeks now and the tracks too. I was resorting to trotting up a hill that was gritted just outside our yard.

Now the clinic has been canceled due to snow I am giving up - no riding till everything has thawed properly. Pony lives out so and has lost enough weight not to need to exercise to keep him trim so he is now on holiday.

Had planned some winter shows in Feb but will just wait now till the better weather.

Worst winter ever.
I would ride mine in the snow but he is being rehabilitated with SI strain so any slipping is detrimental to his recovery. So is doing nothing though so we are hand walking indoors.
