Has anyone else had an utterly crap day today?

Rode Jake yesterday for the first time after his body work session and he felt amazing light, flexible and off the leg.

And then today he came in dog lame from the field on his off fore. No swelling really, no major heat but mild pain reaction (blinking but not snapping leg away) to pressure on his superficial flexor tendon. And a prominent check ligament (I think that's the name, can't quite remember) where he is standing on his toe. Feel so sorry for him.

Cold hosing, ice boot, bandaging, bute and box rest until Tues, if no better at all then vet on Wednesday. She's coming to scan the leg on another horse on the yard so fits in ok.

I am just so gutted, not only do I feel like an incredibly bad mum, it's just such a shame because we were really getting somewhere and had qualified for the mini sunshine tour in two classes in Sept.

AND TO TOP IT ALL.. I had a look ad his saddle is bridging slightly, and the panels on the back aren't quite large enough for how big and wide he had become to distribute the weight evenly enough which I think is making him a little tight through the bottom of his back. I only had it fitted 3 weeks ago.

Healing vibes please!!

<<<healing vibes>>> coming your way!

Totally feel you. Have had an utterly crap weekend after the news about Pops on Friday. Only just managed to shrug off my funk and get cracking on thinking positively, but still dreading the week ahead.

Horses, who'd have em?!

Yep, would offer you a glass of wine & some chocs but I need them too as 2 weeks into box rest for a suspensory and I've got a fire breathing levitating monster to walk in hand with the combination of strong wind & sunshine making the beast even more lively :blue:

Aww no, healing vibes coming your way.

Also had an utterly rubbish day too, set off to show this morning with friends mare and foal and got all the way there after 2 hours travelling to find it was cancelled. Had got up to muck out at work at 4 😒

Then saw other show was on so decided to ring and see what time class was, was told after lunch and got there at 11 to find secretary had made a mistake and class had already gone in 🙈

A complete and utter waste of a day, ended up going home and getting horses mucked out. Now inside soaking in bath, today just needs to be over it's been a write off.

Could just be an abcess! I Have not known a horse to go properly lame from a check or tendon that only mildly reacts and has no heat or swelling and not that quickly. Abcesses on the other hand do come on that quick. The toe pointing thing if more like an abcess. Does he have a digi pulse and a warm foot? If so then get your farrier out instead of a vet. Much less of a hole and much less expense!

yep my horse has been on field rest for 8 weeks with a check ligament desmitis. Friday he had heat and swelling again so has been in the stable for 2 days with no improvement so will be on phone to vet in the morning to get them back out again. On top of that my dog has managed to cut his paw as well today so is now bandaged up before a trip to the vets tomorrow if it's warranted. Animals who'd have em

Exactly what I said today.. who'd have em.

This is what I was hoping! Although no pulse, no visuals and no heat in foot and no reaction to pressure with a hoofpick (he is a sensitive soul). Although I am going to try and get the farrier out before the vet. The tendon is enlarged slightly, but nothing I would notice unless I was looking, but the pain reaction thing, considering how lame he is, did confuse me. He is more lame after being in than he was when he came in from the field this morning, worse on a circle, although thats to be expected I guess when he is putting weight on the sore leg, he is happily standing square in his box though which I guess is a good sign.

I realise that I shouldn't have turned him onto his bad leg, stupid moment!!

I would bet on an abcess. The enlargement of the tendon could just be the veins being up because the foot is sore.

Fingers crossed for a simple, short term problem!
