Has anyone ever made a rude comment about your horse?

How do people get anyway with saying these things?! I was always taught if you can't say something nice, don't saying anything at all. I would never comment on anyone else's horses (unless asked and even then I would try and tell what I did like rather than the bits that weren't my cup of tea). Everyone has different taste and they obviously bought their horse for a reason as long as they like them that is all that matters. Like people, no horse is perfect but it is often these quirks that makes them special.
 
Luci they are all so cute ! Very lucky :-) would LOVE a staff myself ! It does make me laugh when you hear people slanting of others horses I always do the " you ride it and see what happens" comment :) quite funny when your "sluggy" cob isnt far behind their tb on a gallop :p so many judgemental idiots now days ! Most of which are snobby pony club teenagers
 
that he looked like a really good cob, it made me chuckle as it wasn't meant to be rude, simply a compliment... but hes 1/4 connie and 1/2 TB lol...

Well just last week my mare was being schooled by my trainer and during the session she was being particularly forthright, strong, heavy and bucking in response to the schooling whip (Eeeeek) we had bunny hops, big bucks, refusing to soften in the halt and so ended up backing into the boards..... :( Trainer is very talented and mare quite green, after changing tact she ended up with her first balanced, engaged canter - in an outline, soft and steady! Some beautiful light work followed and I stayed quiet watching this transformation.

At the end of the session they headed over to me, steam was billowing off them into the nights air, trainer took a deep breath and said 'She's quite rude' (with a wry smile) and I said 'Really? I didn't notice!?' ;) we laughed. She was really pleased with her.

Staffie's are THE best IMO. I've had loads of negative comments about mine, the usual "just wait till it rips a child's face off " and similar. Plus, people crossing the street when they see her, and snatching their small dogs/children up off the ground at first sight. :rolleyes:
She is actually very well trained. Passed her KC Good Citizen Bronze Award at a companion dog show without having any specific KC Good Citizen training beforehand. She is excellent at dog agility, very quick and accurate, but I had to give this up due to having a back problem and I couldn't keep up with her on a full agility course.
She is brilliant with all other dogs and children, has 100% recall in every situation (best one was when she spotted a deer ahead that had jumped out of the bushes and ran across the road, went to run after it then stopped mid stride when I shouted "LEAVE !, Missy, COME." and she came hurtling back to me with a huge Staffie grin on her face :cool:).
I've had her out walking as a "stooge dog" with another Staffie who was fear aggressive towards all other dogs....he now has several doggie friends thanks to Missy being a such a good calming influence on him...on and OFF lead.
I've also trained her to pick up anything I drop and give it to me....including a purse, keys, money (notes and coins), pens/pencils, mobile phone, bank card and many more. She fetches the post, my shoes, and can help to take my shoes, socks, trousers, jacket etc off when asked. I can put a plate of food down if the phone rings while I'm eating...and she won't touch it, in fact, she turns her head away from me while I am eating because I trained her to do that.
My Staffie is a dog in a million....I wouldn't change her for the world. I'll get another Staffie in preference to any other breed after she passes away.

As for horse negative comments, I just quietly laugh to myself at the person who makes such remarks as it just shows their ignorance. :D

PMSL!! Carefreegirl, that made me laugh!!

I've had nasty comments from far too many people to list.

The one that made my blood boil was "That THING shouldn't have been saved, it would have been better in can" It nearly made me cry :(

I've had some nasty comments from here too. If they got to know me and Ned, I'm sure they wouldn't be so quick to judge :)

Still, I'm slowly but surely showing everyone who ever put me down wrong!!
 
Some fat old hag told me that I would have to put some work into my cob as he was like 'a riding school horse'. She said it like that was the worse thing ever. Stupid moo couldn't even get on her horse without assistance and when she did, it would buck her off.

Oh I think I have had everything!

When I rode my Shetland at shows I had a bunch of girls that rode Dartmoors from the same riding school sneer at me because "their ponies were bigger and better than your silly Shetland" and "We're better riders than you because we ride bigger ponies" - well who always went out with the red rosettes hmm?!? :D And then, just to prove a point, I went and got myself a bigger, better Dartmoor and broke and schooled it from scratch and still tanned their backsides every time out :D :D :D

With my fell pony - "You should never have bought that, it's dangerous, it breaks peoples bones and you'll be next" - yeah he had a numpty try him before I did who couldn't canter and he had never cantered before either so both were completely unbalanced and she slipped off the side door going round a corner and broke her collarbone. He has been one of the best ponies I have ever had!

With any and all of my TB's - "why do you want those things? They are just walking vets bills"

Though my father always said the best one - walking tihs machines lol!
 
I've been told to put my boy out on loan to a retirement place, claim loss of use purely cause he had an abscess! I've also heard that same person said he should be shot cause he has issues with his legs :( needless to say he's very happy, comfortable and got many years left in him yet!
 
Yep - I have a heavyweight cob, who is white with spotty markings. He has jumped an open team chase course, evented, and done the team relay at Peterborough - out hunting one day someone refused to take a lead from "the mouldy cob" and promptly fell off in front of me after cutting me up. Thankfully Marlowe is careful and managed to jump him as well as the jump.

I also have a 4 year old Oldenberg cross - he is nearly 17hh. Comment the other day from a foot follower when the hunt passed through our yard and Bert escaped from his field "good lord, that thing looks like a bullock"

I just take all the comments, i know full well Marlowe is amazing, i don't need other people to appreciate him! And as for the baby, he's so laid back i don't care that people think he's a bullock!

I think some people see a coloured and just assume they are a cob. My new mare (in sig) is an ISH and had also been called a cob on numerous occasions!
 
Someone once said about cob - "well you get ugly horses and he's ugly"

And oh regularly refers to cob simply as "the cow"
 
Someone once said to me 'oh dear, your pony is very croup high, thats bad conformation...' had to laguh as she was in fact standing down a hill.... :rolleyes:

And I always found it rude when people said my pony was a push button ride (she simply loved to jump and so did I!), wasn't until they got on a very quickly off again after not being able to stop that they would keep quiet :D
 
Have been told my pony is ugly and should be in front of a cart. A week later that person was kicked badly by their own horse. I call that karma.
 
People often ask if my KWPN is a thoroughbred :( I find it rude because she clearly is not.

When I first had hunni(year ago) I was told by a livery from an old yard that I should sell her because I won't be able to do dressage on her because of her size(the h***?) but after winning my first dressage competition with her(and still compete with her now,good results still :P ;) hehe) someone slipped it out that she wanted to buy hunni! If that's not sly I don't know what is...

yeah, I agree, coloureds were only ever gypsy cobs in the old days... its a throw back from that! I remember that I friend of mine had a chestnut ISH cob and someone said 'oh what a handsome welshie!' she was livid, and we ribbed her about it for years LOL

I refer to ben as the mud monster and the tank LOL :D even though he is NOT a cob, If I had another cob it would look like our old girlie... a proper cob:

I always class it as jealousy or a threat.I have had many people over the years makeing sly comments behind my back about my mare,things from "oh shes a bag of *****" to "you will never be able to handle her once shes fully grown" when she was a two year old,thing is I still have her now at rising 7 years old,backed her myself and the safest horse I know personally.I just laugh and stick my two fingers up in my head and think what a prat,obviously dont spend enough time with your own horse when your too busy finding time to gossip about mine.Its a shame that theres so many small minded people around in the horse world.As far as im concerned just enjoy your horses and your time with them and let others envy what you have and they dont. ;)
 
The amount of times I have seen people buy horses because "it had pretty markings" then a week later after being dumped in a hedge some where it suddenly turns into an "evil" "dangerous" animal :p I buy for how well they suite the job not because they look pretty !
 
In about 1974 I lent my beloved Bamber to a girl who'd paid for a place at a week's course with some visiting famous person (name long since forgotten) as her own horse had gone lame. Bamber was an aged somewhat stiff ex-riding school 14.2, but nothing else was available.

I went along and watched some of the classes. Bamber clearly found it very hard work and much of it was beyond his ability, but he did his best and tried his heart out. Unfortunately I was there at the last class when they all rode each others' horses then shared their opinions.

Apparently Bamber was useless, all sorts of other negatives and above all lazy. :( I looked at my poor old gentle, generous boy hanging his head with tiredness and it took all my willpower not to walk in there, push the rider off, give the over-privileged cows on their expensive mounts a mouthful and march off.
 
I once got asked when unloading my Traditional Cob at a show why I had brought a cow to a horse show?!? She has full mane and feathers and only I'm aloud to call her cow features lol. She went in the ring and trounsed all the finer coloureds. Must of been a cow judge ;) made me giggle if anything
