I went down to the field to see my pony one morning, to find her led in a ditch with one leg stuck out. She didn't look comfortable at all but wouldn't get up, we called the vets and they came out quickly, the young vet, nice enough, tapped my ponies legs and spine for a reaction but she didn't move, after about an hour of ummm-ing and ahhh-ing, the vet said that she had lost all feeling in her legs and must have torn a vital nerve in her spine whilst falling in the ditch and paralised her legs, as you can imagine the only option was to have her PTS, obviuosly we were devastated....the vet walks off to her car to get the lethal drug to inject my pony, and Storm (the pony) leaps up and gallops...yes gallops.....past the vet in her car with her tail in the air!! We were shocked, overjoyed and so relieved.....but then when the vet sent a bill for £1400 we were gobsmacked!! They nearly put down my pony when there was nothing wrong with her!!
I contacted the vets, explained the situation and they said that we didn't need to pay anything. Awful thought that if she hadn't got up, she would of been PTS for no reason!!
Pony is 22 now and still cheeky live wire!!
