Has anyone ever refused to pay a vets bill?

I went down to the field to see my pony one morning, to find her led in a ditch with one leg stuck out. She didn't look comfortable at all but wouldn't get up, we called the vets and they came out quickly, the young vet, nice enough, tapped my ponies legs and spine for a reaction but she didn't move, after about an hour of ummm-ing and ahhh-ing, the vet said that she had lost all feeling in her legs and must have torn a vital nerve in her spine whilst falling in the ditch and paralised her legs, as you can imagine the only option was to have her PTS, obviuosly we were devastated....the vet walks off to her car to get the lethal drug to inject my pony, and Storm (the pony) leaps up and gallops...yes gallops.....past the vet in her car with her tail in the air!! We were shocked, overjoyed and so relieved.....but then when the vet sent a bill for £1400 we were gobsmacked!! They nearly put down my pony when there was nothing wrong with her!!

I contacted the vets, explained the situation and they said that we didn't need to pay anything. Awful thought that if she hadn't got up, she would of been PTS for no reason!!

Pony is 22 now and still cheeky live wire!!

You wot! £1400 for WHAT???? From what you said, all he did was poke, prod and walk to his car!!!! Darn right I wouldn't have paid that. Not even if ponio HAD needed to be PTS. £1400????????? The mind boggles :eek::eek::eek:

Yes.
Not horses but dogs.
our old boy was neutered at 5 when we bought a young bitch and she was coming into her first season. The vet told us it would be fine for them to be in together. He humped the female and we were then told that we would have to pay for abortion injections as he can still produce offspring up to 6 weeks after neutering!
Needless to say due to their complete lack of aftercare they did not charge us for the injection.
