Has one or two horses put you off an entire breed?

He looks nice though! Who is he by?

He's by Castana out of a mare called Lecarrow Princess, through his lines are Kind of Diamonds, Irelands Pride and Duleek Hero to name but a few.

My coloured has Ben Purple lines, but has TB and WB mixed in and he can be evil around food!!

This is him (and if you recognise him it's because he modelled for Horsewear before I got him!!)

Exmoor mare - a little witch.

Just a one-off I hope. She was vile, waiting for an opportunity to slip the knife in all the time. Would come over from one end of the field to the other to tell you just how much she loathed everyone.

Apparently her mother was like that and her brother had just broken its owner's ankle! Their owner took her for us - it was that or pts, we had reached that point.

It has to be coloured gypsy cobs for me - my first horse was one, and we stuck it out for four years. He reduced me to a gibbering wreck who was ready to give up horses. He was such a stroppy awkward sod latterly - all was OK as long as we did as much as he wanted. He went to a home to teach beginners - perfect, he was fine in walk! My friend has one the same - she can't stand them now either, and he is off to a new home this week. Hers bucked when he didn't want to do something.

i dont think i am really predjudice against a horse, as each one is different. dont like anything over 15hh though, feel unsafe!!
really really chunky ponies i am not keen on, but ridden many lovely chunkies :)

I helped look after a warmblood on our yard over the winter and he was the most stupid horse I've ever come across. I know its a stereotype and they aren't all like that but it really has put me off. I'd think twice before I risked it in case I got a one that thick!

I dont like trakheners. I bought a TB x trakener. What a nightmare of a horse. I love ISH's, yes they do have their moments when they really dont want to do something but they have the most wonderful temperaments. However, currently looking for another horse and it wont be an ISH (due to their price) but am considering a TB. Current horse is forward going and I prefer a horse to be off the leg.

Not sure about warmplods either. Theres one at our yard and yes he can jump but is a nutter on the roads.

I can understand people not caring for Arabs as they do tend to be a bit challenging. I love them myself but they're definitely not for everyone.

I don't think I have any breeds that I'm totally set against though there are a few I've never had a desire to own. Mostly because of looks though - Appys and Quarter Horses come to mind.

As beautiful as they are, every Arab I've ever met has been a swivel-eyed lunatic. And my friend's gypsy mare has put me off them, because she's such a twisted, obstinate cow. I'd rather ride a loony Arab than do battle with her!

Although, saying that, I said I'd never EVER get anything TBish, and I ended up with a TBX, who thinks, moves and acts like a full TB! I'm totally converted to Thoroughbreds, I think they're amazing :)

Love Arabs (beautiful, intelligent, passionate, brave and will always get you home in style).

I love all horses

BUT

I have to admit to feeling a bit racist towards TBs, WBs and Welshies.

*hangs head in shame*

P.S. Can I just mention how nice it is to find a tongue-in-cheek post that hasn't turned into a bunfight.

Yes, know what poster above means about coloured gypsy cobs who buck!! Mine can throw the most almighty buck if he feels like it, but is a darling at heart.

It has to be me, but I've never ever been able to get the best out of a mare!! Dunno what it is, but there isn't one single mare I've ever ridden who I've wanted to take home.

Exmoors and anything native I'd definately avoid: my first pony was an Exmoor and he was just Satan Incarnate, little B^^^^r

Oh yes I knew one exactly like that, hated people (especially children) and the worst kicker and biter I have ever met! Owner had bought her for the grand sum of 50p.

She was a fab driving pony though, she really enjoyed her work (once you had managed to harness her up that is!).

Highlands! I have known 3 very well & they have all been bolshy, rude and lazy! So I'm now a little judgemental towards them ..

Haha, knew Arab's would be highly mentioned in this post, I am there BIGGEST fan and own 3, I used to PC my girl jumped on every team did dressage, show etc, then in her later years we do endurance, they are so versatile I bought another 2. Everyone used to say 'ohhh flighty arab wont do anything, she always proved them wrong, once you have ridden an arab you will never want anything else too true, have never met a bad one.
For me im no fan of TB's just dont like the look of them (I have a TBx) and dont like the look of her when soming out of winter she just look's too TB, presonal preference.
I always believe it's the horse not the bred, like what is it with chesnut mares, even worse chestnut arab mares, woah there, they can kill cant they, or so people would lead you to believe, it's just a colour have never seen a problem with them.

Shetlands - never met a nice one.

Welsh Ds - I owned one who was a total nervous wreck and she ruined my confidence.

NF - had a horrible stubborn one once, I'm pretty sure it was just her being her so I wouldn't rule out a NF completely, but I'd be careful.

I think I just generally don't like ponies, really...

And last but by no means least, Anglo Arabs. I've ridden three - one I just don't get on with, one I struggled with (he was a neurotic idiot sometimes, but would have done a nice dressage test) and one I got on with. I'd never buy one though - even the nice one had a streak of something in her that I didn't like.

Give me an Iberian any day :p

Shetlands - only met one I hated. The rest are divine.

Icelandics - oooooooooooh noooooooooooooooo! I have a broken back and can only ride my Icelandic because he never trots and tolt is luffley and very very comfortable. He is a pocket rocket who I trust 100%.

How funny how we can have such opposite opinions based on what we had a bad experience with! It can colour all judgement.

I hate arabs and rode an arab stallion in Egypt who was a complete gentleman amongst guns, coaches and all kinds of stuff being thrown at him. It completely changed my mind and opinion!

I have a shetland and he is an evil little bugger BUT I have had him since he was 10 months and even everyone at the yard who has been on the recieving end of his teeth lots of times all say the yard would be empty without him :P
Also they say he is really nice unless I'm there then he bites people, they honestly believe he is protective of me!
One last thing he doesn't like ... people the same height as him ... he literally mauls children! But i do love him :) Lol

I wouldnt say i'd never buy one ever but the first horse I bought was a belgian warmblood and after the dealer sold him to me as a confidence giver, novice ride, potential low leverl eventer. I got him home and he reared vertical (he was sold as 16.3 but more like 17.1) and fly bucked. This put me off warmbloods really. As much as I love to watch them I find Irish horses are more suited to me so after sending him back to the dealer, I went to the private market and bought Tia and now i've got Cooper coming on thursday both ISHs.

During my horse hunting I have steered away from warmbloods but maybe in the future when i'm older and more confident I might go for one. If the right one came along. :)

See, my horse (in my sig) is a belgian warmblood who is the nicest, easiest horse I have ever met. He's not 'dumb' either! He is totally safe but has competed in pretty much all disciplines with success (TREC, dressage, sj, xc, ode, showing, games...)

I would definitely be interested in having another bwp if it was anything like the one I already have!

i have the most amazing irish draught, personally i would never have a tb, mainly because i feel that they are to fine for me which is why taz is perfect for me lovely relaxed out boy, who fizzies up when need be on a common ride and hunting would never ever go past an ID or an ISH

Yep, don't like their way of going at all. I know many people find them very comfortable but I can't get away with their paces!

Fair enough, horses for courses!! Ha ha. As for me: im not really into Highlands as all the ones ive ridden have been lazy :o Also, TBs dont really do it fo me but i would never say never!:D

Don't mean to offend anyone now, and I know im not talking about a breed but I have never met a black horse that isn't evil lol!
I owned a black mare a few years back and she was the devil in disguise i swear it. And we have had quite a few pass through our yard over the years and not one of them had a nice temperament!
Not saying all are the same, just the ones i've met!

matrix is black and was totally sweet, my first pony and ridden by a 9 year old with a need for speed and i never once fell off him.
then he was abused and broken by "professionals"
he is now grumpy, defensive and terrotorial in his stable. but underneath, the pony he was is still in there. who can blame him anyway?
however, most blacks i have met have been pretty grumpy! but some have been wonderful anyway :)
i dont reallly like big horses. was bolted with twice and dumped twice by a 15.2 on one hack and it has put me off.
i have 2 15.2 cobs who i feel very safe on, but apart from that, at the moment, not for me. not to buy anyway.

Im yet to meet a nice one, temperament wise anyway. But im sure there are plenty out there. Maybe black horses just dont like me lol :D

matrix doesnt exactly have a nice temprament anymore!!
bless him :(
i have met some very grumpy black ponies! and equally very nice ones- so you must have just met the grumpy ones!

Remember that all bay horses are genetially black. :D

I have been upset many times over the years when my horse has been slagged off because she is chestnut. Once I learned a bit about coat colours and knew that the two base colours are black and chestnut (everything else is other genes modifying the base colour) I learnt a good answer for them. I would say 'what about palominos, or strawberry roans, or rose greys etc...?' They would answer 'oh they are fine' and I'd reply 'and they are all genetically chestnut!' Shut them and their petty predudices up every time! :p
