Yep I see your point..... some seriously high prices for some not very good horses - wowsers! I take it the owners of the 14 lame horses did not disclose lameness or were potentially unaware?

It's absolute bonkers. I've just seen a TB (nice little thing) for 6 grand that is quite obviously lame behind, and another TB (again, smart little type) with no competition record at all but up for £18k!

Considering selling my own little mule if it's going to get me that kind of money, I might be able to actually afford my own horsebox!
 
I've seen a horse for sale that won my area festival class last year. It's asking price is £25k the class it won was novice bronze. The mind boggles, but clearly I'm not going to get anywhere up against that, on my little freebie pony.
 
Honestly the number of for sale ads that I see with horses that are clearly lame is mind boggling. And I don’t mean the borderline ‘is it stiff and being ridden badly or is it lame?’, I mean outright lame.

Are these horses going out compete and not being pulled up by judges and stewards? Or is that why they usually have v spotty comp records?
 
I had been thinking about buying a house, then buying a horse and a puppy...but I think I'll just wait. :p

At the moment I think the financial impact of the Covid 19 pandemic hasn't hit - while people on furlough have a lot of time to be out riding. But as the economy has taken a 20% downturn, I think that we'll see horse prices dropping by late autumn, early winter.

I used to teach private clients on their own horses. It's incredibly difficult to tell someone their horse is lame. My stock phrases were (while they were warming up) 'Does he usually move like this?' and 'Is he a little stiff behind today?' People can't see it, and many can't even feel it when they ride.

I too am tentatively looking to move and am finding the prices eye-watering. Where's this recession they keep talking about? Oh and I've just seen two used le mieux saddlecloths on ebay. One is £60 and one is £100 !!! Yikes!!!
 
Ran Arbel has a nice mare for sale on his face book page will not be crazy money and can recommend him for honesty about his horses x
