Hat fitting - a bit disturbing.

I bought my first proper equestrian helmet last year from an equestrian tack shop, it was a most nerve wracking experience indeed. 😱
The lady who was fitting the helmet started invading my personal space which made me rather uncomfortable.
I was unsure what to do so I just closed my eyes and prayed. 🫣🙏
She even told me not to lean back and stand upright which I was unaware off.
Eventually the fitting finished, I paid for the helmet and left the equestrian tack shop with a huge sigh of relief. 😮‍💨
BTW. The best helmets are Champion or Charles Owen. Apparently they conform to British Equestrian standards or something I think.
Saw your reply has been edited … Do tattoos make you scary? Should people be fearing for their lives when tattooed people walk towards them??
Sounds like.. just like the information you are spouting .. its clearly rubbish .. way to go , top marks for offending people…

There are tons of tattooed people on here BTW

Alwaysmoretoknow! I am intrigued by this 'Adjustable Hat' and would love to know who the manufacturer is and which standards this hat complies with?
My interest lies in that I am a member of the British Standards Institute Committee that develops the standards for 'Equestrian Helmets'.
Many thanks
Hi Peter, I believe the make is Premier Equine Endeavour. I know nothing about what standards it does or not conform to.

If you found hat fitting unnerving, you’re going to love having a body protector fitted 🤣 I suggest you opt for one without a crotch strap!

David as a person very new to riding, could you please try to stop posting stuff you know nothing about? I feel obliged to correct you so that others don't get the wrong information. Champion and Charles Owen are just two of many hat brands that meet certified standards, not necessarily "the best" and they don't fit everyone.
.
Ycbm. Where does it say in Horse & Hound forum guidelines.'Only members with 30 plus years experience riding horses may comment on posts' ?. In fact my comment was rather sensible. I suggested 2 brands of hat that conform to British Safety Standards. What brand of hat(s) have you suggested the Op. purchase ?

@David G

I have taken the liberty of using bold to make it easier to explain.

In your first post you did not suggest: you stated that two brands are “the best”. Please provide the reference for this. There are many brands which meet the various safety standards and are BSI kitemarked. You did not suggest two brands - you stated.

It is generally accepted that the best hat for an individual is the hat that fits them and meets one of the safety standards (and if they are lucky enough to have a choice, one of the “higher” standards).

I can’t speak for ycbm but my reason for pointing the above out is that your erroneous assertion about “the best” brands might cause people to purchase hats that don’t fit them as well as hats from different brands that would therefore offer better protection to that individual.

Had you stated that the two brands are the best in your opinion, I would have found that to be a more reasonable thing to say.

In addition, I would be grateful if you would stop commenting on the appearance of those providing you with goods or services when it is irrelevant. Such comments do not come across well and suggest that you may be prejudiced. This is my personal opinion and others may not agree.

It doesn't David, and of course you can write whatever incorrect stuff you like about "the best" hats and what to do when a dog attacks your horse, from your experience of riding for 3 months.

Just as I will feel free to correct you for the sake of others who might believe what you write. And continue to express my own feelings that I wish I didn't feel I needed to.

The brand of hat I recommend is the one that fits your own head and has the appearance required for the use you're going to put it to. Someone showing, for example, cannot use a skull cap and few people want velvet for hacking. Though I will always recommend MIPS if that extra safety standard is available in the hat you need.
