hats and bp's, when do you wear yours?

Hat at all times when riding or lunging in addition to gloves and boots and sometimes on ground horse dependant. I.e often do loading.

I get scare watching people lunge with no gloves/hat especially as it is normally youngsters who are more likely to have a spaz attack!

Body protector I only wear for XC whether that is training or events. I have a racesafe which thankfully doesn't aggregate my dodgy back!

Alyth, that's exactly why I wear mine. Although Ned can be tricky at times, the scariest (though least painful) fall was because he lost his footing in a spook and came down. I don't think I would have fallen had he not fallen as well.
One of the safest ponies at the yard landed badly after a tiny 1ft jump, landed on his face and flung the rider off. He's bombproof and a cracking jumper, it was just bad luck! Neither were hurt, but they could have been.
If I knew the only risk was Ned spooking or bolting etc and having me off, I don't think I'd bother, but like Benson21 said, it's not always the horse or rider that causes the accident.

Thats ok then! never mind all the care your family and loved ones may have to give you after a fall with no hat on. Jeez...what an attitude!!!

That was ment to be tounge in cheek, if i was working with something feral or truly dangerous the of course i would take all of the safety precautions necessary if i was at risk.

wear my hat 99.9% of the time when riding, i have forgotten it on 1 or 2 occasions and couldn't be bothered to turn round and get it:o
Never wear a bp, can't stand them! i used to suffer panic attacks and wearing something that fits so snug like a bp makes me get tight chested and tense, unpleasant for me and probably not much fun for the horse either having a rigid rider perched on top!! I had a rodney powell bp which i gave to a friends daughter and i have a racesafe stuffed in the wardrobe somewhere, OH has given up nagging me to wear it;)
Daughter wears her bp unless she's hopped on bareback for a play, still has to wear her hat though:)

i do tend to get panick attack'ey but dont find a body protector affects me as much, its more about not being able to move my hands/arms/legs etc. In a lesson the other week i had my arms tied to my sides (long story lol) but it was only with an elasticated thingy that i could easily snap/remove but i was just about in tears lol

lol its fine :D if i had read that i would have probably responded in the same way, things dont always relay in the same way over the tinternet
I generally say that as im fastening my hat up before mounting the horse that is being a **** or has'nt been ridden in weeks... im the yards resident crash test dummy in most cases :p but i only take on something that i know i can manage. I know how much it hurts to break things

Bp and hs1 for jumping either horse or fast hacks on new boy. Hs1 no bp fast hacks on little girl. Lighter hat for general hacking or schooling in summer. Never to handle as my horses are angels to handle and not spooky, either would fall over their own feet before they bumped into or stood on me and could have taken beatings off the yard bully because I was stood in front so they couldn't move - I didn't get out the way quick on my crutches!

always wear hat and bp when riding, two youngsters, and a stroppy 18 yr old ! bp was a bargain, brand new rondney powell, with shoulder pads, and bag, £20 on ebay ! sometimes wear hat while on the ground, if working with young/naughty horses !

Always wear a hat to ride, for lunging and doing ground work with my youngster.

As I have not ridden much for a few years, I don't have a BP, but will be getting one very soon as will be starting to ride more often (hurrah!).
