Some of you may have followed my posts regarding our Little Lad. A 13.1hh-ish Welsh cross (we believe), who can move and jump, but would on the whole really rather not

Laminitic, slight sweet-itch, has got the buck and the dropped-shoulder off to a fine art; on the plus side, he is practically bombproof and is a joy to hack out, and quite likes Handy Pony clases

. He's good to load, travel, vet, farrier, dentist, back man.

So, we've thought long and hard, explored and considered various options (loan/rescue home/companion/PTS - many, may thanks to those who have helped and given time and guidance on this), and come to the conclusion that he will stay with us. I think, in part, that the decision is due to me having lost too many times in the last few months, to lose Little Lad as well, well it's just one too many for now.

Daughter is happy to ride him five days a week: she is a bit long in the leg for him(!), but light enough. Usually hacking out, he's in a Happy Mouth snaffle and she can stop him from a canter even when we're all moving along at a quick pace: he doesn't buck or try to bob off when we're out
smile.gif
. Once a week she takes him into the school and he works reasonably well: daughter has to stay awake and sharp to control those moments when he's testing her control. She's introducing him slowy to Games, just for fun - he's getting the hang of it and seems to be enjoying it, but he's never going to set the Games ring on fire, but it doesn't matter.

He leads in and out in a Chiffney with no problems. I'm going to experiement with a pressure halter as he's responded well to it whilst doing ground work.

As we're looking for our own land/house, we will be able to tuck him into a suitable spot and he can be our own companion.

Hubby isn't too chuffed at keeping him, he doesn't see the point in having three neds when only two of us ride; he wants daughter to work on Little Cob and have fun on him, so we make sure that LC is always ridden first and he's the one that daughter has lessons on and taks to shows, etc.

If the right person came along and wanted to ride him/loan him, then I'd be happy with that, so long as he stays where we are.

He's not at his best on the lunge, and this was from a year or so ago
grin.gif
, he's a bit better now...
grin.gif
. He's also lost a ton of blubber
grin.gif
, if I can get the recent piccies off hubby's machine, I'll post them.

Great piccy! Thats great you're going to keep him, he sounds like a safe hack so well worth keeping around! Especially if you get your own place where, like you say, he can be your companion pony! Nice ending to the story
grin.gif

I think that's a great idea. As I have read your previous posts I've always got the feeling that you didn't really want to part with him
grin.gif

I do think that ponies with 'quirks' can get past around all too easily, so I'm sure you've made the best decision for him, as well as for you (no wondering what's happened to him).
We did something similar and kept a 15.2hh companion for 12 years, most of that on our own place and she was one of the reasons that we bought a smallholding.
There are some disadvantages of owning your own place but we wouldn't go back to all the disadvantages of livery, even if some-one else offered to pay

Love the pic by the way

LC and me had a 'bond' lol...
LL could of happily cone home with me on the train, but i think i may have needed to invest in so rollerblades.

im back from wales tomorrow, so i'll do my fly eating post lol. x

Mrs M try the dog choke chain to lead him with. Less severe than a chifney and a damn sight cheaper than a pressure halter. I can stop my 16.3 wb (he's a well built lad) from tanking off with me so am pretty sure it will work with your boy. He looks lovely by the way...I love something with "character"!

What a nice ponie looks every bit the cheeky chappie.
Glad you have decide to keep him.
Just tell the OH he is a spare if any of the others get wonky wheels.

he's a lovely little pony, and what a fantastic photo. I am so pleased you have decided to keep him

Yay, Glad you are keeping him!

How is Dizzy now? I have been away for over a week so think I may have missed an update.

SS - ta hun
smile.gif
. All crossed. I just have to keep hubby away from him - he's already decided that LL could be a BOGOF if we sold either of the other two
blush.gif
. Ho hum.
grin.gif
.

N - lol. Eating them is one way of keeping the fly population down
grin.gif
. Would you recommend it?
grin.gif
. Daughter has set booby traps round LC's stable
grin.gif
.

PaS - 'quirks' is one way of putting it

When this pony wants you off, well, you're going
frown.gif
. There was one day when I could have killed him with my bare hands, he meant to get kids off and he did. They'd done nothing wrong and he was having the most easy time of it, just decided he'd had enough thank you very much and he was leaving the school sans rider. Ah well. All water under the bridge, and we do love him in some weird way
grin.gif
.

M - a plan. YO suggested that and I did buy one, but LL has gone so easily in the chiffney that it doesn't get called into action. But, I will give it a try
grin.gif
.

T - definately a cheeky chappie lol. He's usually pretty good for me, on the ground - he did manage to deck me (took five bucks, but he got there
wink.gif
). Yup, he makes a good spare, cos I can ride Little Cob
smile.gif
.

SM - hm, don't think hubby is seeing the logic, but I'm working on the 'four is easier than two'...
grin.gif
.

L_D - ta hun. That picture does make me laugh
grin.gif
.

H_C2 - ta hun. I'm just about to post a wee note about the Dizzy one...

.

HB - indeed

Glad you're keeping him!
