Have/do/would you ever canter on the road?

Yes out hunting, agree with AmyMay re trot.

Now, very rarely but horse tends to go into canter if he deems other horses are trotting too fast for him. Not ideal but preferable to him getting more panicked by being left behind. In reality, he could probably trot faster than his canter as it is very soft, if you get my meaning.

I would NEVER canter on the road intentionally. Hunting or not, I won't put my horses legs at risk, I value him too much. I do not trot fast either, it is only a steady jog or very collected in an outline. I also would not cane it on hard/boggy ground or jump on it for the same reason.

I wouldnt even trot on the roads after my very first pony came down with concussive laminitis which I swear is because as a kid I trotted about the lanes all the time

Doesnt mean to say I havent galloped on roads though, however not by choice...! Have been bolted with about 5 times, once ended up with me and horse falling over and sliding down the road on our sides!!
