Don't know if any of you others want to get the ball rolling but I have just emailed Bailey's to ask them to donate something, preferably a lorry load of feed or a wad of cash to this tragedy. The more we can pressure companies the better I think, don't know about anyone else.

Call me dumb but what is the Amersham Crisis? I havent heard of this before???

Are there any online feed merchants where we could just get bags of feed delivered direct to them, paid for by us?
Obviously we'd need to contact the yards involved first to know what it was they were in need of....

Hmmm, possibly. Maybe I'm too big a cynic, I tend to think that even if it creates good publicity, if it ain't making them money, they ain't going to do it. So, yes, giving them that push has got to be a great idea.

Have you not seen or heard the news about the rescue operation at Amersham where 30+ horses were found dead and many others starving? Look in the Latest News forum for the full thread.

Pat, Have you got a template or copy of the email you sent and I will send some out too?

Ditto.

Brilliant idea.

I've just been speaking a leading feed manufacturer rep and they are intending to send feed etc... Don't think I should say who though.....

I just emailed Youngs Animal Feeds.

Offered to buy so many bags of feed, as I'm sure other customers would do, if they are considering sending a consignment to the relevant welfare organisations that are undertaking this mammoth task.

I just wish so much that I lived closer.

Why would she do that? I would have thought the more positive publicity they get the better.

I have no idea, just abiding by her request. She's left the office now, so I can't ask her

You wouldn't want it honestly, it was a load of waffle and not a good letter at all but I wrote it and sent it before I thought too much about what to say properly TBH! For your enjoyment and my embarassment!! -

Please forgive my temerity in asking this but I have been a customer of yours since the beginning so hope you don't mind.
Is there any way that Bailey's as a company could be persuaded to help the charities involved, particularly The Horse Trust (as they are the least known but have taken in a large amount of the horse involved) that have rescued those poor horses at Amersham. Would it be too much to ask that you could supply them with a lorry load (preferably a very large one!) which could give a kick start to their recovery?
Or perhaps donate a pound from each bag sold, something like that?
I'm sure your marketing and publicity people could come up with something which could be to both theirs and your advantage? The only problem is this needs to be done NOW, immediately for it to help this collection of poor animals.
Please help them, horse owners everywhere would be greatly in your debt.
Thank you for your time, I'm crossing everything that this works and you can do something.

A slight difference in 'lauding' and disallowing anyone to mention it.

This is taking the the thread off topic, maybe you would go to PM if you wish to continue?

Pat - only my dad could make me cry at the drop of a hat, but you have done it today. We need more people like you in this world with the guts and determination to make a difference. Thank you.

I have just e-mailed The Horsetrust and asked them about donating and IF they do actually require rugs, feed etc from individuals. The whole yard is getting together to decide what form of fund raising we will be doing, either gymkhana or sponsored ride.

I'm sorry I made you cry, that was not my intention but on the other hand, if it can just kick start them into action I'll just have to supply you with tissues!

I'm also going to suggest (as secretary of our Hunt Supporters) that the The Horse Trust becomes our charity of the year although it's by no means a fore gone conclusion. I'll let you know later (next month at the earliest!)

I know someone who lives near the HorseTrust and he said if I wanted to get them a bag of feed he will deliver it. Do you know if this would be ok? I know it isn't much, but I am trying to rally everyone at work to give some money and this seems the best way of doing it!

I think that's a great idea, you just need to know what they are feeding so you can send the right sort though I expect HiFi would be a safe bet! How about asking your colleagues if they'd club together for a bag or two? Sometimes people prefer to see what they are giving rather than just give money, I know I do!

I've received a reply from Spillers. They had already considered sending feed, but when they approached the charities involved, were told money would be a more appropriate donation as the horses would be on a hay only diet for the near future due to their malnutrition. Apparently they won't send money as their motives may be questioned. I've asked why this is the case
