I cant decide..
Just been offered the yard we are on for £300 per month.
Yard is small, have approx 2 acres plus a bit spare at the front that can be utilised. 4 stable block with barn. Outdoor school, small ish but useable for us.
Water from a well powered by gene, we provide gene and fuel.
Currently 3 of us paying £80 each every 4 weeks.
This would be £300 on 1st of every month between us...
meaning we dont need to get someone else to take 4th stable and stretch grazing further..

I think it sounds like a good deal!

thats about right for here- recently a similar yard but with 4 acres was up for rent for £300 per month including elecy and water, I wanted it but didnt have enough horses to make it financially a good move.

In some parts of the country this would be a good deal but round here u can get diy livery for £18-20 per week on a yard with a full size school, this works out to £25 per week, and i'm just thinking being as we do everything ourselves (maintenance included) maybe we will end up paying too much.
Mind u no bitchy liveries to deal with and only 3 horses who get on.. maybe i should just pay the extra and be thankful lol!

I think that's good - especially for the privacy and extra use of school without booking system! Plus things such as worming together are in your control, not yard manager who may / may not bother.

Don't omit to factor in the saving you will make moving from paying every 4 weeks to paying every calendar month.....Effectively you'll get a free month every year.

Is 2 acres enough for 3 horses? I thought the calculation was something like 2.5 acres for the 1st horse and 1.25 acres for every additional horse. That would mean you really need 5 acres.

Hi oliver-twist,

I'd charge you a lot more than that, for that set up! And if hacking is good, a lot more!

I'm firmly with the 'you got a good deal' side!

You are, of course, very welcome to pay £85/week for DIY in Liverpool.... (no, not me, i'm not in Liverpool, but a non-horsey friend of my partner's brags that his non-horsey cousin gets this much for a place by the motorway...yes, i'm lost, too! Don't want to know him.) Has waiting list (allegedly).

Well, friends, if you don't want to be fleeced, just talk to local folk, get on with them, understand them, live with them + share their lives. Employ them. It really is that simple, believe me. If we all did that, then no-one could fleece us.

BS x

I don't know where you are but I'm in Hampshire which is not cheap. I pay £150 for 4 acres and three stables with a large tack room and barn. No school though. DIY around here is approx £100 a month.
