Just found the advert for when I bought Motor nearly 19 years ago .......

So just rang the number to have a chat, thinking it was the past owner .....................

However it was the old yard owner, who remembers Motor and said 'he was a handsome chap' ...... I am so pleased .
grin.gif
.... and she is hoping she will bump into Mot's old owner and let her know how he is
grin.gif

She could not believe he is still alive at the grand old age of 28

I rug Teds breeder, they remembered him 'Oh ay, the lanky chestnut with a funny square on his head'

Also rang the stud his dad stood at, about two months aftr Carlingfor Castle died, and they sent me a set of stud cards and other bits n bobs.

yes, several!! To his breeder who remembered him as " the racer built like the side of a brick **** house, fat buggar that had more work than the others!"
Also several to his trainers, who sent me some lovely letters.
And the most horrible one having to tell his old owner he had been PTS. I couldn't talk, I just remember Mum taking the phone off me

I did make a random visit a few months ago, and found the horse bought for me when she was a 3yo, alive and on the same yard and now 17 years old and looking amazing

I rang the breeder of my mare and spoke to the groom who looked after her, they sent me all her records as a foal untill the day they sold her - there was about 3 homes between them and me and where quite impressed how i managed to find her when they still had her passport

I would have rung Carrie's breeder... but I found out that they were having a really hard time of things, and took the decision to keep from them the circumstances that lead to me getting Carrie.

I'm sure they'd love to know she died in the arms of a little girl who loved her to bits, but no breeder deserves to know what else she went through!

very bitter sweet - I miss that horse so much. The reason I gave up horses was that I couldn't bear to have my heart broken like that again. I did start riding again, but I've never got attached to a horse since
It's funny really that the saddest memories can be the happiest. I have a photo of him probably 30 mins before he was PTS, and he absolutely glows in it, he looks so well

I do think it's nice to try and keep in touch with prev owners tho

He has obviously found his sole mate then

.... I hope that does not sound rude though, as it is supposed to be a compliment

wish I knew where my boy came from. My ex racer i've found out quite a bit about and contacted old trainer and got a bit of info but my other boy went from dealer to dealer- all i know is he came from some dealer in Ireland when he was 3, then went to another dealer who sold to riding school/dealer. Would even just love to know what breed he is!!!

I always wanted to try and find Motor's Sire and Dam ... I have a picture of his Dam, but never found her, and sadly found out that his Sire had passed away, by the time I found out more about him

i rung up joe's old owner and she went is he the one with the big dent in his side
grin.gif
he has a prophets thumb!! she said how lovely he was. made my day because he is a saint.

I rang the owners who had Charlie for 4 years and sadly they were just not interested. Admittedly I did not speak to the girl who rode him (spoke to her sister instead).

I once wrote to previous owners of my daughters pony, to let them know how Honey was doing, and it turned out that we had been parked next to them at a local show. they recognised their lorry in the background of our pic
laugh.gif

They returned an picture of their daughter on Honey taken 15 years previously- and it was an identical pic to one of Heather on Honey, who was now aged 22. They were so pleased to know that Honey had found a home for the rest of her life and that she was loved.

I've been in contact with Merlins old owner all the time even had to break the news to her bout him passing away she had him since he was a foal she knew he was ill from me but having to tell her that I had to let him go peacefully was v hard.
I was lucky enough to know his whole past...miss my boy loads

Minnie - she was my Sister in laws so she's still in family.

I am in contact with Orkan's old owner reguarly since I found him on the forum. Through HHO, I have also found his daughter - v heplful HHO is!

Luckily he came with a massive folder of history including piccies of him eventing with Daisy Dick so I have most of his life story
grin.gif

Yes I stayed in contact with Goddy's old owners. They are lovely, but only had him for 7mnths so didn't know his history really. I still keep in contact with Lucky's old owner as I aim to keep having lessons with her ocasionally. Unfortunately I don't know her history before them as am struggling to track her breeder!

I randomly contacted Ru's old trainer to let them know how she was doing, and got lots of information about her. They were pleased to know how she was doing and let me have her old owners address so that I can contact them. The worst contact I had was when Sid was PTS and I had to contact his old owner through facebook as I had lost all contact numbers.

I had been told Tim Stockdale had bred my horse and I wrote to him when he was finally PTS. I was not expecting anything back, assuming he would be too busy and probably would not remember him...but I got a lovely, long letter from his wife! They did remember him (this was a good 10 years later!!), they had not bred him but had bought him from a dealer, she had loads of stories about him and was so happy he had a good life!!!
smile.gif
I was so pleased I wrote!

I put a post in Picture Gallery and a friend of the girl I bought Baz from recognised him and contacted me - it was lovely hearing about his time with them!

I also contacted his old trainer a couple of weeks ago by email but wasn't really expecting anything back. To my surprise I got a lovely response back about 3 hours later giving me loads of information and they were really pleased and interested to hear how he was doing.

Prior to that he was bred and raced in Brazil - I haven't contacted them as my portugese isn't up to much lol!

well the breeder of one of my horses called/harressed to demand her back as she claimed to have a buy back agreement down the line.
she said i could keep her as long as i let her have a foal from her- and it had to be a filly!

Well I have a bittersweet one too.

I leased a broodmare, she was booked up so it was a 5 year wait.
Aged 17 and with 10 foals under her belt, she arrived accompanied by several telephone calls warning me about her behaviour!

She produced a lovely foal for me, the lease ended and she was due to go on to yet another home (now age 21). I was a bit wobbly about her going and when her new people (they never even came to see her) asked me to drop her off en route at a county show so she could do a class or two I saw red, borrowed the money and bought her.

Anyway, finally getting to the point… much later I met her breeder at a show. When I told him that I had her (she was 29 by then) he couldn’t have cared less and referred to her as “oh her”.
mad.gif
He didn’t want to see photos, he didn’t want to tell me anything about her young life, anything. I was bitterly disappointed
mad.gif
.

The final comment belongs to the mare though. Her bloodlines were very rare and valuable and this is why people wanted her. On paper she was almost guaranteed to produce a particular type of foal and yet eleven lovely foals arrived that were not this particular type of foal.

Foal number 12 duly arrived, a filly, all was well and I left them to it. In daylight I looked over the door and nearly died of shock
shocked.gif
There was The Foal - the old girl had done it, at 23 and her last foal, she had produced the jewel in the crown. Ha!

Now I'm curious - what was so special about it?

Yes, I rang up everyone who had had Polly, and it took some detective work as her breeder had moved but only locally. They were all very surprised and pleased to hear about her - her sire's owners were very helpful! There was a short period where she almost fell on hard times, but thankfully she was bought by some extremely wealthy people and she was set for life then. They were the turning point I think in her career as a show hunter/working hunter. Anyway, I heard enough stories to assure me she had been a much loved and successful little pony whose dam only died a year or so before she did - amazing.

I also tracked down the breeder of another pony we had and she was lovely, very helpful and even sent me photos of him as a foal. He is only one of two I ever sold has a new owner who is a tad protective of him and doesn't want to share her happiness with me
confused.gif
frown.gif
The other one I sold never really left my life and her owner and I have been friends for the twenty years since.

I am in touch with a current pony's breeder as he came from them, and the former owners of another. Our loan showjumper's owner is in touch almost daily and I know where all of my ponies and horses have gone - mostly to the bridge
frown.gif

I did let a pony go on loan eight years ago and she recently went to join Polly and all the others who have passed through my life and hands at some point. All of them dearly loved.

I have had no disinterest except by the owner of the sold pony which is still alive. And it is quite upsetting, even though I know once they aresold, they are sold. I wish I hadn't, actually, even though he is OK.
