I have a new horse on loan who is a 16hh Irish boy and is a very very good doer!

He needs to take supplements so needs something for them so in preparation for the winter also I was thinking about maybe chaff and a balancer for now and see how he goes?

I have used most brands in the past but interested to know what you'd all recommend now?

chaff and a balancer does my gang well

I am currently using Dengie Meadow grass chaff as it's easy to get hold of and seems tasty. And currently on Spillers Daily Balancer which is cost effective and has no iron added.

I’d use a low sugar/starch chaff and a decent vitamin and mineral supplement.
My good doer laminitic Welsh gets a handful of Dengie hi-fi molasses free plus supplements, and a scoop of Progressive Earth pro-balance to make sure his diet is balanced.

If he’s not picky then honeychop lite and healthy is free from all the “bad stuff” like molasses, soya etc and very low in sugar and starch. Perfect for my tubby connemara who just needs a vessel to get her vits and mins in!

As above, I have 3 good doers and they all have honeychop light and healthy, pro earth vit/minerals and linseed. I like the honeychop as it's the only chaff I could find with no alfalfa, soya or mollases. I plan to add allen and page fast fibre in the wi ter. This is an ems friendly diet for my porkies who are losing weight and looking well ?

ie Meadow grass chaff as it's easy
What’s he currently eating? What condition is he in currently?
If it’s simply just a carrier for a supp, I’d just use a handful of chaff for a very good doer.
Currently grass and nothing else! He's carrying enough summer weight so he doesn't need to put on anymore! He just looks very "well"! He's by no means obese or looks like he's carrying a baby but just doesn't need to gain anymore!

The owners just used to give him some chaff in the winter I think.
