Firstly I have no objections about clipping I often clip (When needed) and I am not targeting everyone just wanted to have a rant and hear your thoughts.
We have a pony on the yard which is kept in a field on it's own next to my mare and her field buddy, I have had to put electric fencing up to stop them touching as I am sure my mare would try to kill this poor little thing if she thought it was showing any interest in her field mate.
Anyway getting to the point shortly, this little pony is kept in the field for I presume the womans daughter to come and ride it as and when they can be bothered. Quite often we don't see anyone attending to it on a regular basis, (Once it was brought in and no one came to see it for a few days so the girls on the yard topped water up etc and checked it was ok until someone bothered to turn it back out).
Now I have never seen this little thing get ridden only with the kid sat on it while mum walks it to the yard in a head collar, that was about 2 months ago and not seen anyone on it since (although I could be wrong)
This little pony is very fine, not skinny but not plump either, yesterday to my horror mum dragged it in had the whole thing clipped, and turned it back out rugless. Each morning I turn my mare and her field buddy out its stood in one spot with its head hung low and looks really fed up.. The poor thing must be FREEZING..
Why do people feel it is a need to clip when quite clearly this pony is doing nothing but standing in a field. Surely it would be better to leave it woolly for winter.
Now please correct me if I am wrong...
