having the worst day known to man!

So is the stallion collecting today for you?
Always tricky with first time if you don't know how big they ovulate on, sounds like yesterday would have been a mistake!

It confuses the hell out of me! I don't understand warmblood breeding at all :p

Good luck to you both!

Confused me too dont worry lol :D I was looking at BHHS foal shows... now thats confusing!

Yesterday would have been a mistake. No not collecting until shes scanned tomorrow to check, wouldnt be fair onf stally/stud owner if they messed up again!!!!

Oooh I'm so excited for you! :D

Im excited :D

Right just back from the vets!

Dee hasnt ovulated but her folicals are a lot bigger (measuring 27 and 25.5) so being scan again tomorrow morning. The vets are very apologetic at the 'shambles' (their own words) and are doping everything they can to ensure it doesnt happen again. Dee is doing really well at the vets.

Oh golly they are tiny follicles. If she hasn't been PGd then she probably won't ovulate until Tuesday or Wednesday. I only have one mare who ovulates at lower than 50mm, she's a 49er. Vets sound incompetent to me, sorry. If they think she's ready to be inseminated now then tbh I'd be looking for another vet who knows what they are doing.

I don't know much about breeding but from what you've posted over the last few days I would also agree with Spring Feather.

I'm in complete agreement with SF - why on earth would an 'experienced repro vet' suggest you order semen if the follicle was less than 20mm? I would be surprised if your mare ovulated before Wednesday.

I thought most mares ovulated around 35 - 40? Im not ordering that stuff until shes bigger :) I think she iill ovulate thursday personally hence not ordering it. Repro vet has taken over and seems more competent. They have put their hands up the there has been a hugh cock up.

ETA - i think people misunderstood - what i meant earlier was inform stallion owner not order.... :)

It is vets like that who must drive stallion owners bonkers, especially when they are walk ins away from home. Fortunately, most stallion owners are very accommodating, but vets like that push the limits of patience a bit. Not to mention having the owners paying the collection and postage each wasted time. I would only ever use a proper reproduction vet - I hope your practice are going to reduce the bill accordingly for you OP.

HBM1 - its all in hand ;) - As a thanks im paying for the wasted fuel for the stallion owner as a gesture of thanks....i fully blame the vets in all this, nothing the stud nor the stally owner has doen wrong. If it were a case everything was doen right then fair enough if she didnt take, thats nature, but sill errors...nah! now good!

Oh he's a beaut! What a fab record and temperament to boot (v. important imo). I wonder if she'll have a coloured foal. All my mare's foals were born bay and then after the first moult turned into the same grey as the fella in my avatar. How exciting for you, good luck with everything :)

Royal Mail have service which has consequential loss.. I e it delayed you can claim for losses incurred due to fact it was delayed.. It runs in conjunction with special delivery service.. Just a thought..

I know crellow4.... either way im a bit out of pocket...but it was paid guareenteed saturday delivery and they didnt deliver...if you pay for a service you expect to get it. Unfortunetly i havent recived the best service from either the vets nor the curior company. Hopefully they can redeem themselves. I understand, we are all human, mistakes can happen....but i wait with an open mind as to how this progresses.

Just out of interest what colour is the foaly likely to be? Good luck with everything its plain to see how much you idolise dee.

Well, neither Dee (love your name btw :D) nor the stallion are genetically tested for colour, but he has through coloured as well as solid foals (more coloureds then solids i think), whereas the majority of dee's family are either black or dark bay/brown with one chestnut. So in theroy (without testing) she carries the red gene but with black being the dominant gene. So i imagine base black, so possible pieblad or black. As long as its healthy and mare and foal are fine i dont care. Would love a coloured though :)

Delicia is measuring 35mm today so semen ordered for Wednesday. I puns the missing package. It was sitting at the post office 1 mile from the vets on Saturday with no attempt of delivery. Hmm!

Sounds like all systems are go again :)

The only wrinkle in the works here and something I'd be questioning is, if she was 27mm yesterday and she's 35mm today, that is an odd growth pattern. Follicles generally only grow between 3mm and 5mm per day. Out of interest, what is the other smaller follicle doing? Has it grown at the same rate?
