I would love to say it's almost that time of year again but looking outside I think not...

How much do you all pay for having your rugs washed, washed and reproofed and washed, r'proofed and repaired?

I have about thirty stinky rugs all in need of a sheep dip and OH wont let me use the home machine now we have a baby.

With 30 rugs it might be worth buying a spare washing machine for horsey stuff, wouldn't take you long to get your moneys worth!

£8 for wash; £10 for wash & reproof (which I never too as don't want the inside of the rug to be waterproof which wouldn't allow moisture to be wicked away) and £15-£20 for wash and repairs depending on damage.

Last year I washed them all myself (well I paid daughter to do it in a bath) Never again as just didn't get them clean enough. I have thought about buying a commercial washing machine and dryer, but not worth it for my 10 rugs (2 horses!)

I wash the fly sheets, fleeces, thin rugs myself in a 6kg machine and they are fine but the turnout/heavy weight stable rugs are mank :o

I am about to do this too. I have so much horse washing and my biggest rugs won't fit in the normal machine, plus same as you my OH moans about it. Planning on getting a bigger machine to go in the tackroom.

I am very lucky to have a laundrette near by that is part of an ironing shop so has a seperate room full of machines. The woman is always stood there talking so doesn't notice When I fill the 'quilt' machines with my dirty rugs. Saying that, I have never left any hair (always hoover them before taking them). The machines are huge and I can put big turnouts and heavy weights in them. I also use the smaller machine (still much muich bigger than mine at home) to wash all my saddle cloths and boots at home when they are really dirty. I am taking my rugs tomorrow, It's annoying having to wait for them to wash but it's the only way I can wash them. Tried washing them in the bath, it was awful !!

For huge machine - 8 euros, for small machine - 5 euros

Just the price of leccy and water as bought a larger machine for around 500.

It has more than paid for itself and then some!

My ponies have their rugs washed weekly! I cannot cope with dirty rugs! I mean would you wear your undies for a couple of weeks???

For that amount of rugs I would tell hubby that you are buying a machine!

Just done a quick check of local prices and a wash and reproof is £27 per rug so times that by 30!

Tell hubby you are saving money! Go straight on ebay and buy a machine right now and get it delivered tomorrow!!!!

;-)

I have taken rugs to the laundrette before and washed them in the massive washers - about £7 per wash and then had to pay 50p for 15? mins to dry and needed quite a few goes.

Won't be doing it again as not worth the hassle and didn't come up as nice as a professional clean.

Those who have bought a bigger machine to wash rugs at home - what sized machine did you get and can it cope with a heavy turnout?

I only have three horses at the moment but have so many different sizes as like to hoard, hence the 30 rugs. £27?! I am going online shopping now. Could be dangerous..

How big do they go? Could I hide a new wardrobes worth of online shopping in them to?:p
