We make our own hay from 2 acres of our 3 acre field. The pony summer grazes the other acre. Some of the hay we bring straight in to the 'little hay shed' and the rest we store in a hut in the field which has a badger sett underneath it. (A nursery sett so the badgers are not there until Jan or so when they start to dig it out again)
The pony eats the hay we store in the little shed but is very reluctant to eat the hay stored in the big shed. We brought a couple of bales up last week and opened one up for him but he is not keen. He leaves most of it. Do you think he is put off by the badger smell or is he just fussy?

I would be suprised if he is put off by the badger smell especially as they haven't arrived yet. Does the hay in the hut get exposed to the weather, has this changed it at all to the hay stored in the shed? Maybe you could try putting some hay from the hut into the shed for a week or so and then feed it to him, maybe the shed has some aroma about it that he likes - fussy sod!
