I like the idea of a putinig a haybar in Spring's stable but they seem really expensive for what they are. Is there a cheaper version? It has to be a temporary thing as she is on livery and so I have to be able to take it down/put it up without damaging the stable!

Thanks

Yes - its called feeding on the floor or use a tub trug.

Don't know why people like haybars so much - its just another thing for horse to scratch and get caught up on!

We use these big plastic/rubber trough things - they are central heating water tanks bought from a plumbing shop!- really strong and just the right height and you can get loads of hay in it if you like to feed ad-lib. Also use Tubtrug rubber pots for soaking hay as they come in different sizes and are handy. I really think the haybar things are very expensive for what they are as it is just a bit of plastic at the end of the day!!....

The problem is that she just fills her water buckets with hay if I feed from the floor or in a big bucket and then is desperately thirsty by morning! I wondered if a haybar would be ok as they are higher. I don't want to waste money though so will just stick to haynets I think!

Thanks

some-one on here made some diy ones with thick ply.they posted pictures and they looked good.sorry but it was a few months ago and i cannot remember who it was.

My brother got me some big brick carrying trugs from a builders merchant. They're like the rubber feed buckets, but HUGE and indestructable. I used to use it to feed hay from. They cost about 5 pounds.
