My lovely hubby has just bought me a Haybar in full size, it arrived today but it seems huge. I'm planning to use it in the stable of my 14hh mare - should I have gone for the pony version? I just don't think she'll be able to reach to the bottom, and I worry if it would have the wrong effect on her topline.

Anyone else with similar sized ponies - what size hay bar did you go for?

We have a 14.3hh cob mare who has a full size haybar. She can certainly reach to the bottom, she likes to pull all her hay out of it to get the tasty bits first.

It will be fine - mine looked massive when I first got it but you get used to it! She will be able to reach the bottom no problem. Mine is slightly off the ground, just enough so I can get my brush under it.

Thanks all, i'm still in two minds, but I think i'll stick with the bigger one. I suppose I can always put more hay in, or even put an upturned bucket in the bottom so the hay sits on top, slightly higher up.

That's what I do with my pony but she is only 12hh, not 14hh, it works well :D

The ponies at work are 14.1/14.2hh and they both have full size hay bars and manage to reach the bottom fine!

My lovely Dad made me a shelf to go half way down mine, as I was worried my 14'3 couldn't reach the bottom, it worked really well.

If you discount her chucking the hay on the floor....
