Last Sunday was a very big day here in camp GR, as some of you know back in June I sold my beloved Thoroughbred Major. I had uhhmd and arrrd about it for months, if not years really. Feeling I was missing out on competing, and that I needed something to show me the ropes Eventing. But the decision wasn't an easy one, and even the day I sold him I wasn't sure if I was doing the right thing. But the home was lovely, and the new owners were wonderful, so I let him go after 4 years of ownership and having taught him everything he knew (that wasn't racing!).
I was gutted, but had a new horse on trial immediately to keep me occupied. That horse didn't work out, then another didn't work out, then one was sold whilst I had her on loan..... and basically nothing was quite well.... Major....
I missed him so much, every day, and deeply regretted selling him. But I was happy he was happy and in a nice home.
I contacted his new owners, purely to find out how he was getting on. We got chatting, and she asked me if I regretted selling him.... So I told her that I missed him hugely, but I was glad he was happy.
She contacted me the next day, and offered him back to me.
Fast forward to last Sunday, they delivered him up from their home in Wales, he hasn't been ridden for about 2-3 months and his very fat and hairy. But he is still my lovely kind boy
You won't meet a horse with a nicer, more laid back attitude, I jumped straight on him after that long off and having been kept in on isolation for 3 days and the toughest issue I had was getting him moving! Just loving having him home, and I won't make the same mistake again. I will sacrifice any aspirations of showjumping for the time being and hope that Oakley, my youngster can fill those shoes, but in the meantime we will have a lot of fun hunting!
