Heating Oil

I've just had a ground source heat pump installed. I was not convinced at all as you have little control over the system. It suposedly keeps the house at what ever you set the thermostat to, but you can't turn it on and off like a normal boiler.

However I have a constant supply of hot water and so far (after about a month of use) the house is always warm.
They work best with a house that has loads of insulation.
I have not seen my electricity bill yet so I don't know how expensive it will be to run!

It ws a nightmare to install but hopefully worth it.

I've just paid £294 for 500 litres. It's really gone up.

Our Rayburn servicing firm are planning to import CH boilers that use wood pelllets as fuel .... apparently miles cheaper, but of course untried - and I haven't a clue about where you get wood pellets from!! Has anyone else come across these?

Have a look at ecowood fuels.

I know how you feel. We ran out of oil this week and the cheapest we could get 500 litres from was for £330!!! I nearly keeled over when I was told how much it would cost. But what can we do?!!!!

Surely you have an emmersion switch? This is what we are doing, it heats within 10 mins enough for a bath for the boys or a shower for us - is working out much cheaper.

no, we don't. We don't have an immersion heater (just a cold water tank in the attic), we can't even get a bath of hot water when the heating's on (it heats direct from the boiler). So what to do? upgrade our system (and wave a cheery goodbye to the USELESS company that installed it) or change to gas and have to buy in canisters and risk that costing even more.

Most stupid thing i did was to have our open fires blocked off (because they were messy when lit)...
