Heatwave weekend plans!

Almost 11 hrs on a train during the day Saturday.
Walking hills and munroes Sunday gathering sheep.
Heading back to Scotland after a flying visit south so weather should be more sensible when I am back.

Exciting MP - and have fun at Stoneleigh!
Good luck Rara AE1 and all others competing, the forecast looks a lot cooler.
Lovely puppy AE2!

I'm trying a potential loan horse tomorrow. He's a 16.3hh Holstein so likely to be a bit different to my 15.3hh PRE... Thankfully an eventer at my yard let me have a ride on his drop-dead gorgeous 17.2hh warmblood this morning. He didn't feel huge and I could ride him on the bit in all three paces so I'm feeling less anxious about riding a big warmblood in front of a stranger now. Hopefully I like him and his owner likes me..!

Other than that, family stuff, a birthday dinner, and a hack or two on Indio.

Congrats on the foal MP , exciting times and definitely making the most of the situation.
Good luck rara that looks so posh and a bit daunting. Good luck too to everyone else competing.
I think if I'm to keep riding I'm going to have to figure out a way of owning more than 1 horse at a time. I'm not sure it will go down well with my family but if I don't do it now I never will.
I think I'll start keeping my eye out for a field to rent locally, less facilities but more horses ;)
Quiet weekend for me, next Wednesday could be a big day though :)

Quiet weekend after last weekends excitement! I have lesson Saturday morning then dressage writing in the afternoon. In last Sunday’s test i got marked down heavily for tension/ hollow etc I’ve been working on this for last 2 years (weekly lessons - the 18 months being with a BD coach) yet feel like we’re not making any progress! Not got any plans for Sunday - think it’s going to rain.
Have a good weekend everyone!

I'm writing at PetPlans on Saturday and scoring on Sunday. May as well get my volunteering hours in since I can't take part this year... Think we won't have the heatwave - yellow warning of rain instead (almost glad I'm not competing. Almost).
Lesson on the new boy on Saturday - looking forward to planning taking him out and about.
Alibear - you are in the same place I was. I've gone for it. Keeping everything crossed it works out, but just feel that time was not on my side for waiting. Good luck.

Good luck to everyone else, some exciting plans and news being shared.

Good luck all with everything.
Rara - where is that, your horse looks fabulous in the trot up.
Miliepops - hope you have fab time, we should have been there but had to withdraw. Grrr

Congrats to MP, I must have missed that on fb
I hope everyone copes in this weather although it is much cooler here today, good luck if you are competing.
Rose is having a little holiday as I have vertigo and can't even get on the mounting block let alone on a horse. It is really annoying as I am OK sitting still or lying down but have no balance on the move. Fell into a rose bush last night putting Rose out and am covered in scratches.

Ohh oldie, that's awful. Poor you. Have you medication to take?

Lots of exciting plans already underway or coming u. Good luck and have fun, all!

So cute AE!!
Rara what a brilliant result. Hope it cools down for you.
Enjoy your holiday Fiona
Enjoy PC camp DressageCob. Hope cob is ok
So exciting to have a foal on the way, MP. It must be so lovely to ride/compete a homebred.
DabDab hurrray for mojo - It never stays away for long I find
Abi90 hope the move goes well.
Chippers - my RI always says confidence is key and it makes no difference what height the fences are. She often makes me do lessons over teeny fences (far smaller than 65) to get me rifing correctly without stressing about the fences. Then whacks them up again and says 'same again'.
Bernster, JFTD-WS: Sept is a better time for ridiung anyway. Too hot now and too many damn flies!
Asha have a lovely holiday. I love the Cotswolds
Hallo2012. Have fun. I love Kelsall.
Alibear = Wednesday? Have I missed a thread??
McFluff/Reacher: My friend dressage wrote the other weekend and said she learnt absolutely loads.. I must do it sometimes. I tend to always fence judge!

Yes and some exercises to do to try to reset my balance, I'm a little better this morning, managed to get do the horses on my own but still not quite up to riding. It is very unpleasant as it makes me feel nauseous too. Oh well, generally I'm quite lucky with my help so I'm trying not to moan too much!

Well we made it round, just... one stop (again!!) But this had a very obvious reason rather than a random stop, he was napping towards the horses waiting by the side so lost the canter completely. I'm not sure where this napping habit has appeared from but it needs sorting asap. I think I need to be more on it now and make sure I ride him properly past other horses, it did catch me out a bit today.
Other than that he had a nice forward round so hopefully he's gained some confidence as I felt better about it too. Seeing as there was only me in the "senior" section I did end up in first place so I'll take that!
Oh and also managed to load him on my own on the way there so feeling happy about that :)

Now dying my hair pink for something to do 😬

Well done Chippers!! Amber went through a brief napping phase. She'd land after a fence and dive for the collecting ring. Very disconcerting! But it ended as soon as it started really. I think it was just a confidence thing perhaps.

Well done Chippers!

Albert the naughty cob today decided to keep the left shoe on (yay!) but shed the right one, just for variety. Luckily a farrier was coming to the yard anyway, so a new shoe has been put on, but it was a bit tough because he lost so much foot the hoof looked triangular.
I think we are going to give the heart bars a break until his feet are stronger. His feel always crumble in the summer, but he is incredibly sore barefoot so wouldn’t take to that when we tried.

Had a good lesson with the big cob working on simple changes ready for his elementary test next Saturday. They are improving although still not perfect.

Well done chippers...

Hope everyone didn't get soaked.. We've travelled from Co Down, to Cairnryan, through Dumfries, across to the east coast, and it's rained a lot of the day...

We've brought our dog with us, and she's peed in the holiday house 😭😭😭😭😭

Such a shock, she's 3yo, and never done anything it before.

So cross with her..

One of our border terriers used to do this when we went away, clearly he liked to make his mark. He also peed up someone's leg whilst I was talking to them, did this on two occasions, just so embarrasing fortunately both were dog owners and pretty forgiving!

It's good to know I'm not the only one, but seriously, we'd just been outside and she did a pee in the garden, then she managed to get herself closed in a bedroom as I was carefully closing doors behind me to prevent her getting upstairs (or so I thought)...

Only there for 5min 😭😭

Fiona

No rain here, been a lovely day - tomorrow I think we are in for a drenching though!

My hacking plans have been thwarted - today the local road races were on so lots of motorbikes out and about and then there was an accident on the main road so loads of folk taking the back roads and getting lost, I decided to ride in the field for safety's sake.

Since it's going to be very rainy tomorrow I wimped out and have hired an indoor!

Congrats MP, will be looking for foal pictures next year ;) I am debating breeding my TB this year but I haven't found quite the right match for her as yet. Breeding season starts in a few days here :o

I am working this weekend and was aiming to ride L the haflinger in the mornings, but unfortunately E the TB put her leg through a fence on Friday so am feeling a bit defeated and down about that, not in the right headspace to do justice to a greenie :( It's my fourth decent leg injury in the last few years and I am just sick and tired of it all at the moment. There is an issue with the fence but sadly the YM doesn't seem too keen to do anything about it (already lost a horse to the same fence :( ). Will be insisting on making it safer or I will have to look at moving, which I really don't want to do :(

Hope everyone is having a better weekend than my doom and gloom!

Sorry about your tb N, the fence situation sounds worrying - hope you can convince ym to protect it at least at the bottom.

Well the heatwave has well and truly broken here and it's rained all day. In my current quest to teach Arts about impulsion without speed we were practicing medium walk to free walk to medium walk transitions. Good for my riding because I have to work quite hard at the moment to hold her together and balanced and straight, but she was working through really nicely by the end. We sploshed back in for some breakfast and I went to tack up Dabs and got scowled at when I put the saddle on. After some prodding and poking between me and OH we found a spot of muscle soreness. It's in a really awkward place - even bareback or putting a roller on would put pressure on it so he's earned himself another sick note.

Arty has obviously been giving him self harm lessons. Between the two of them in the last 2 1/2 weeks I've had a blown up eye, a decent cut to the fetlock, cellulitis, and now a strained back muscle.

Horses eh, who'd have 'em. Will have to start riding the native, she seems to be the only reliable one.

Not the best weekend for us, hotel was pants. But we did enjoy the break, but came back to Cholmondley being abandoned . That's the 3rd this year. Seriously starting to think about giving BE up. it costs so much in the run up with extra lesson / trips out and all for nothing. Might just focus Aria on BS.
Vet called over the weekend, one of the mares needs to be PG, as she reacted to the semen and they cant clean her up. No chance of an embryo living through it, so they need to swob, treat and try again. The other one looks good, but then that means nothing with her, as she looked good last time and didn't take. Sorry for the woe is me post. Going to make a brew and watch the futurity online instead

Hope everyone else is having a good one.

Nearly forgot - well done chippers ! Sorry to hear about your pony Dabdab, hope hes better soon

Well done Chippers! It's all about looking at the positives!!
I've had a pretty quiet weekend after last week. It will be back to full on from tomorrow with our next adventure in mind. They were all vaccinated Friday so it's no bad thing.

Ended up having an evening jump session yesterday unexpectedly. We joined someone’s lesson so 3 of us had a fun little pony club type session. Hardly any pony club kicking or leaning back and throwing the reins at him, so I was v pleased.

I’m struggling with taking the stabilisers off though - I can ride well with grids or a single pole but can’t quite transfer that once the poles are taken away. *yet*. But it’s going in the right direction generally.

Sorry to hear about broken ponies and rained-off plans, urghhhh.

For @mule : this is Darcy, didn't want to take that TB thread off on a tangent but this is a pic of him from yesterday. He was fab last night, started some baby leg yield in walk and can now bend the right way round corners and circles most of the time :p We had an accidental racehorse moment on Saturday on the lunge so it was nice to see he was back to being relaxed and tootling about quietly. Getting less like riding an ironing board each time :D

I've had him for a month now, picked him up from a local trainer. He's had a bit of time off from injury but was supposed to be a NH horse - apparently he's not brave over fences so she thought he would like being a dressage horse!
Kira has decided he's OK, and he doesn't mind being left on his own, so that's 2 big boxes ticked. We've just been pottering in the school for a couple of weeks because he was really weak from his time off, but I got some front shoes put on this weekend (hurrah) so he can start some hacking now.
