Please could anybody advise which of the weatherbeeta heavyweight turnout rugs are the best. I need a 6ft 6 Combo with at least a 1000d outer. I have been looking at the Taka and the Orican but would like some feedback please!! Thank you folks :-)

dont get the 'freestyle' versions! They have a gaping gap between the neck and the body and they rub!!!! The positioning of the gusset makes for a wierd fit and only work on extreeeemly narrow horses and then can still rub the shoulders. I do like the tail flaps on them and the belly wraps, just hate the rest!
Other weatherbeeta rugs and the 'old style' takas are fab!

My last two horses have had the Orican with the full neck and I could not fault them, especially the price you can get them for on equestrian clearance :) My ISH is currently on an end of season break is out 24/7 in hers and is toasty warm, the same could be said for my last horse a TB who spent a winter in his.

I have the heavyweight orican with the freestyle system and it's the only combo turnout that hasn't rubbed my big-chested IDx mare. I am a huge WB fan.

I have an Orican Combo for B and a Tristar for J and they are both great rugs. The Orican Combo is 300g where as the detach a neck is 360g so that is worth considering. I bought the other 2 liners for the Tristar so I have one rug that goes from 100g up to 400g in 100g stages which is great for all weathers, I would love another one for B but don't have the pennies! I did have one of the original Taka rugs and it came apart where the 2 different fabric colours joined and the buckles on the cross surcingles kept snapping, I did get a refund but would not buy another rug of that sort of design again.

Now I love the freestyle version! Mine are connies so pretty broad and they are the best fit of any rug! I have also not noticed a gap between the neck and body and my "old" Taka totally fell apart..... Shows how experiences of a rug can differ.

I have an orican. I have had it for about 5 years now and its fabulous never had a bother with it.

Its not a freestyle but is a good fit not too deep but enough room for his big shoulders.

Nikki xxx :)

Thanks guys, I think I will probably go for the old style Taka. I currently have her in a H/W Fal viking silver interactive which is a fab fab rug but unfortunately is too big for her :-(. It is too big accross the chest and therefor doesn't sit properly. I can't afford another ones of those ( which I have now had to advertise) so I need a reletively inexpensive but good quality quick fix. Her m/w's are horseware Rambos but again, can't afford a heavyweight version.

My horse has the Orican Freestyle Detach A Neck rug and it is coming in to it's 3rd winter, the zip has broken on the neck so I need to get it repaired. It fit fine when she was a weedy 3yo but now that she's a tank of a 6yo it does gape round the neck and last winter it rubbed her too.

I've just bought her a new one for Xmas from a company called ProTuff, it was a very reasonable price, looks the business but will see what it is like when it actually arrives.

I have an Arion, I don't know why they have stopped making them, as they are the best I have found. I have had the Taka and the Orican but love my Arion.

Mine has the Orican with the detach-a-neck, I love it it's a brilliant rug. I definitely recommend taking a look on the equestrian clearance site as I got mine for a brilliant price (I got the horrible colour as it was cheapest and she only covered it in mud anyway!)
