Hi everyone, just thought i'd put the feelers out for anyone who lives or rides around Leicestershire..so that when I get my horse I won't have to ride on my own all of the time!
Let me know if you're around these parts.
Thanks.

Wowza!! Thanks guys!

Where abouts are you all...and do you know any nice hacks?

I live in the very small village of Rearsby and there's not really anywhere to go!

Hope to hear soon :)

I am! Well, :o I was born there...

Not much help to you, OP but I do miss the hacking.

We used to live in Old Woodhouse and I used to ride to Broombriggs, The Outwoods, the Beacon, Bradgate Park, Swithland Reservoir...

*goes misty eyed* Happy days!

Where our yard was meant that your horse DID have to get used to the Great Central Railway steam trains.... One route from the yard crossed over the line and one went under.

I was approaching the 'over' bridge once on a winter's afternoon, when I heard the whistle too late and we were engulfed in gust of steam... OMG  I think that was technically termed as a 'bolt for home' :D

Hope you enjoy the Shire!

PS Edited to say I saw your last post and I know Rearsby but not the riding... bet someone else here will, though!

Oh i didn't thinkk you could ride in Bradgate park?
That would be brilliant! There isnt really anywhere at all in Rearsby.
I've lived here all my life and have seen horses passing but they only got around 'the block' as it were... and then back home.
I was hoping to maybe venture a bit further then half a mile! :)

I think South Croxton and Hungarton have some nice hacks, and lots of fields!
Any other suggestions?

Paige.

There are some lovely midshires way bridleways near Brooksby college, going thorough Hoby and Rotherby etc. Also, Gaddesby is close to you and the hacking around there is good. :)

Hum. Well I have to admit that it is *coughs* a few years (like the 8o's) since I lived there and rode in Bradgate (hence the misty eyes) ... If you can't now, I hope I didn't contribute to a ban:(

No, you still can! I rode through there about 5 years ago. :) Also, had a few good hacks around Broomebriggs in the past too! :p

Thats brilliant! Thankyou ever so much everyone. I'm going tomorrow afternoon to view and ride a couple of horses so I shall keep you posted of how it goes and hopefully take some pictures of any who take my fancy :)

Any last minute buying advice would be much appreciated too! Thankyou

Hi I'm from syston so close to rearsby you could hack around thrussington, where abouts are you keeping your horse? When I was younger when we had ponies I used to keep them
at reasrby lodge farm and hack around east goscote.

I'm not sure yet where I am going to keep it, have got a few places but just need to make a desicion. Could I ask where you keep yours? If it's close to me it could be an option..is there room at the inn? hehe :)

Ooooh! I loved to hack up through Woodhouse Eaves, past the Pear Tree and up the hill to turn right into Broomebriggs... (the narrow gates with the concrete lumps to swing them closed behind you were a bugger!)

Up onto Windmill Hill, then turn left through the gate, kick on to canter, through the next gate then diagonally up the next to a narrow, steep up-hill climb to turn left handed through a gate into the top field.... slightly up hill and you could (after much prancing while your companion closed the gate) have a wild gallop on the top of High Leicestershire... used to go up there on a summer's morning at 6ish and feel the most free I ever have in my whole life:o

*Forgive the indulgent, flash-back post... last rode that route nearly 20 years ago... clear as crystal in my mind's eye*

Dont you live around here anymore then Mrs B?

If you ever come back to Leicestershire, I would love to go on that route..it sounds amazing! :)

Great!! Well as soon as I have chosen my horse, I will post again and if anyone from the Leicestershire area would like to meet up then we could all hack out together! :)

Any more??

No, Paige I don't - I am now near Banbury in Oxfordshire. But, if you can get a lift over in a trailer, there is a car park at Broomebriggs and we still (family) have the yard which we rent out nearby, so I could check that the route is still valid with our lovely tenant...:)

Ohhh yes please, that would be brilliant, thank you! I'd love to go in the summer!
Is there many nice hacks for you there? I've never really been to Oxfordshire.

OK - well, when the weather gets better, PM me and I'll try to see what's what.

Oxfordshire has some great hacks but you DO need a traffic proof horse near us. Mind you, I guess that goes for many places now, sadly.

Sidesaddlegirl - sounds like you need to head north a wee bit! But I'm sure there must be others on the board who will post back...

Hmmm..you are quite far, I've just looked on goole maps and theres not even a short cut to hack through.
Do you take your horse/pony to any shows? I'm hoping to be doing a lot of jumping so that may be a good chance to meet some other Leicestershireians?

Thank you very much, I'd really appreciate that. It's lovely at Bradgate.

I currently have the misfortune to actually live in Leicester!!! I hate towns!! Although it's not far from here to Bradgate Park, and last summer when I was waddling round there fairly pregnant (baby arrived in november!) I opened a gate for a couple of peoples!!

Xx

Oh that's good..I'm glad they still allow people to go through Bradgate.

I'd love to go there in the summer and have a picnic with the horses..
Is anyone up for that? Have a lovely wander around Bradgate park and then stop off at the cafe or just have a picnic on the acres of grass-land, and have a bit of a natter whilst the horses make friends too?!

There are loads of shady areas too, so even it was very hot we wouldnt sizzle!
