Hello...Anyone here from Leicestershire?

I didn't realise there would be so many people from Leicestershire!!

Does anyone know of a livery yard that has room for a 'little un'?

Bradgate is great for riding, plenty of parking for horse boxes- if you avoid weekends and bank holidays. There are some restrictions, I think on days when you are allowed to ride but the bridlepaths are quite clearly marked and the ground is lovely and peaty for cantering on, although tracks can get very boggy after lots of rain. You can ride through from Newtown Lindford side and come out on the Cropston side, turn left, up a busy country road (!) for a few hundred yards and go into Swithland Woods. There is some lovely riding round there and last time we went we had a pub lunch at a village pub.

Have a look on www.bridleways.co.uk for routes near you. Also, checkout this- http://www.leics.gov.uk/index/environment/countryside/midshires_way.htms;

Look also at country parks and you'll see where you can ride. There's a few places not too far from you but you'd need transport to ride there. If hacking is important to you, make sure the yard you choose has good hacking, its no fun if you have to ride a couple of miles along a rat run before you can reach any decent tracks.

Great thankyou for those sites, I'll definitely have a look later on!

I'm leaving in about 20 minutes to go and choose a horse!!

Wish me luck!!! :):)

Oh i didn't thinkk you could ride in Bradgate park?
That would be brilliant! There isnt really anywhere at all in Rearsby.
I've lived here all my life and have seen horses passing but they only got around 'the block' as it were... and then back home.
I was hoping to maybe venture a bit further then half a mile! :)

I think South Croxton and Hungarton have some nice hacks, and lots of fields!
Any other suggestions?

Paige.

yes you can ride in bradgate park and swithland woods boxed up a few times to ride there but the ground is rather unsafe in areas and the horses tend to freak when a deer runs away through the bracken i found boxing up and going over to some of the commons around theres one at burbage and one at frolesworth and one at market bosworth sure others nearer to rearsby

I'm from near Rowy so not far from you either. Hacking around here is fab. I have been lucky to work/ride/keep horses at quite a few yards in Leicestershire and the best hacking by far is on the Leicestershire/Rutland border. (Cottesmore Tuesday Country) If you think Bradgate Park is fab, this is better! I kept my horses near Bradgate Park once and although I enjoyed the hacking around there, it wasn't as good for off-road riding as the above.

I used to be near Blaby/Countesthorpe but before I moved to the North of the county. Still miss my old hacking routes around there, any of you ride the 6 fields, Great Central Way or the villages around Willoughby and Peatling Parva ? Used to ride for miles, it was lovely.

I'm from South Leicestershire too! Fleckney, Saddington, Smeeton area. How about you? :)

Slightly off topic, but do you know the cafe round there, I think its called Jackies Tea rooms ? Amazing homemade cakes and beautiful garden. I can't find it as its so long since I went there. Any ideas ?

Erm, I am from Nottingham but have lived in NW Leics for the past 11 years.. We're looking to relocate closer to our work in Enderby, so my pony might well be joining a place near you in the boonies SSG !! :D

I'm NW Leics too - just looked at some of your other posts and sussed who you are - I think you bumped into my Mum in Tesco a couple of days ago!! ;-)

We have a big lack of nice hacking out here, very jealous to hear of your lovely rides in other parts of Leics.

Unfortunately Jackies tea rooms is no more. It was a lovely place though!
Just to let everyone know, there is a fun ride in Saddington on 26th March. Details on welland valley feeds website - knight frank harborough ride. It's always good fun and lovely countryside! :)

Hey everyone! Just got back from my first trial...

Horse was very beautiful, but 12 years old and never really done any work without other horses, so very sensitive and needs a lot of pushing on!
After 4 years of not riding..my legs were in pain after about 10 mins!

However...as i was looking around I spotted an absolutely amazing American Paint Horse..almost 2 years old, supposed to make 15.2hh but is already 15.3hh! Her name is Maddie and I am in love!
The yard owner suggested that I could help her start to lunge, back and let her get to know me so that when she's ready I could buy her..if I'm willing to wait for her!

I'm going back next week to have a ride on a different horse, and will continue to do this every week until I find 'The One'...unless I decide to wait for Maddie. Decisions decisions decisions...What shall I do?!?!

I'm originally from South Leics, grew up in Willoughby Waterleys, the hacking there used to be great, plenty of bridleways and gated roads.

My mum still lives in the village and I sometimes take the horse with me when I go and visit, it's nice to have a plod around the old routes.

HorseyyKidd, I live in South Wigston but Hattie is on Mill Lane in Blaby so only down the street from me :D

horserider, yup we do the 6 fields and have a good gallop there too. We ride all the way down the Great Central Way into Leicester City Center every summer and are going to start hacking to the South Kilworth shows, 10 miles there and 10 miles back!!

Ahh Im from Market Harborough/Lubenham area! I got to all the South Kilworth Shows! I'll probably see you there! Did you go last year?

And SandyLou, I used to ride at Saddington Riding School! I know all the area round there! But Im from Market Harbb :P

I learnt to ride at Saddington!! Manor Farm, not for the faint hearted lol but they took me from a nervous wreck to buying my own pony in less than 6 months, lovely hacking around there. I'm near Market Harborough too, I tend to hack south of the town.

Do any of you go on the Leicestershire and Rutland Bridleways fun rides? would be great to meet up :)

Angie and Ben - I might try and get to some of the fun rides this year. I did the LOROS ride last year which was very good. We could try and get a group together and go on that! :D

I only went to the May one but never got to go to the other three as the person that had the horse trailer flaked out on me. That is why this year, I'm going to hack there and not have to rely on others who always end up letting you down!!

Say "hi" if you see me there, I'll be side saddle :)
