Hello to all the ex NEW RIDER FORUM...

Hello all the ex NR's, I was on there too, some of you might know me, I am also on here just as much and give advice when I am able to do so and butt out when I can't and learn from others on here as I was also doing on the NR site, if I have to pay to advise on NR, I simply won't!
Seems you are not allowed to voice your opinions now on NR without getting booted off!
Well, it's their loss isn't it everyone?
There's lots of knowledgable owners and riders on here as there were on NR, to lose that pool of experience and knowledge is unfortunate and the new riders out there who need the help, support and advice will lose out.

You never have been able! I have been registered on NR since 2001 and dissenters (for which read anyone who dared to even slightly criticise how the site was run) have never been tolerated by those who run the site.

The management has never grasped that a public forum is public, not a private club. If they now want to run it as a private club, that is their choice, but they will find that few members will follow.

I wonder whether a paid-up member who gets banned will try to claim a refund. that will be an interesting debate...

yes i found him most entertaining and the no advertisign rule but there he was advertising he was giving his horse away!

to be fair i liked newrider and met a good lot of people through it, but each day in the past 6 months it went down hill,.

Bit late, due to messing up my registration, but I am an ex New Rider moved over here - thanks for the welocme (I think!?!).

I am not at all a fluffy bunny, and am quite traditional in my horsemanship, though I have many friends who prefer to use NH, which is up to them. I supose I probably fit the demographic here better than the perception of NR (which is somewhat exaggerated, in the whole)

I have a 9yo 16.3hh Clydesdale x TB gelding, called Oscar, who I have had for 3 1/5 years. We compete at riding club level SJ, XC and dressage, hunt, and enjoy hacking and trail rides. My 4 yo daughter also has a loan pony, Bob, a minature shetland, who she shows lead rein.

I found HHO very useful when Oscar was diagnosed with bone spavin this spring, putting my plans to try a couple of BE Intro's on hold. I just never got round to registering. I hope to get even more good advice now I have finally crawled out of the woodwork!

But forums are actually privately owned. Just because the public are allowed to join does not give an automatic right to post anything. The owner of the forum is the person who will be sued if the s**t hits the fan. Forums like NR are not free to run either.

I belong to both forums and think it is a pity there is a them and us feeling.

I agree.
It's a mess over there, can't understand it, if you don't like it then leave, there are plenty of other places to chat. At the moment people are grizzling about wanting all the photos they've ever posted deleted, and some want all their threads deleted as well. Time to grow up and think a bit more carefully about what you post on forums methinks.

Hello Y'all. Been a member for a while, lurk more than anything though. No doubt that will all change

I hope I'm no fluffy bunny.... ok, a bit. But not that much I hope

I'm 'ginny!' from NR.
JD?! Is that you (I've already said that today darnit, reply!!

*needs to sort out sig*

i think that the feeling on this thread is that anyone coming from NR is "they are all pinky fluffy bunnies and all they talk about is confirmation and bad schooling" well i joined NR and i have found it invaluable to me and my horse and how we have progressed. NR is a forum where you get advice on everything equine related and it has helped me immensely with schooling, hacking, and general horse care, sometimes it is better to get advice than flounder on your own.

i will be staying on NR as i have had a look around this forum and am disgusted by the comments about other riders and how they deal with situation, it is very click like and i hate that at least in NR you get advice from everyone not just your peers.

Hi, another possible defector here. Haven't yet decided whether to leave or stay but am more of a lurker anyway. Have lurked on both sites for the same amount of time but only just got into posting on NR anyway.
Must admit, the fluffiness is irritating at times, but I do quite like the site in general. I guess I'm just a bit old school. 20 years off and I come back into riding and it's all Parelli and back/teeth/saddle/cuddles....can't get my head round some of it at all and it can be very repetitive on there.
Anyway, we will see what happens when I actually have to put my hand in my pocket, but for now, Hi!

I think the thing is, HHO needs a certain amount of inbuilt sarcasm. There's a lot of harmless teasing going on but the nature of internet forums means the tone can be hard to decifer. So something that would be perfectly innocent in the real world comes over as something really quite offensive online! On other forums I think there is more policing to mop up anything that could be remotely offensive but here we have a lovely admin who understands the nature of online forums.

The talk of fluffyness on this thread I took more as harmless poking fun on the most part. I love HHO, what it can and does do. ok, sometimes it goes overboard but it's generally a great place

sheesh, calm down. Its just a bit of fun - even the "fluffy bunnies" were stating whether they were fully fluffy or part fluffy.

When someone has a problem on here or is injured I have seen some of the quickest rallying round to make sure owner/horses are alright. A member's yard burned down earlier in the year and there were hundreds of offers of tack, rugs, feed, hay etc within a couple of hours. Someone else recently had a bad fall and instantly there was a whip round for chocolates and flowers. You dont get that on other forums.

Im a defecting Newrider who actually thinks that this thread is brilliant
tongue.gif
.

Im branded a fluffy bunny on Newrider for doing groundwork with my horse and also clicker training, and I have rebacked him and am planning to use him for Classical Dressage and TREC as well as general hacking, showing and fun stuff. Oh and I ride him treeless too *gasp*.

I have always found the bunny concept really amusing and particularly like the reference to Newrider being the Playboy House, that was good
tongue.gif
.

Perhaps I wont be so scared here as I thought, at least people here are allowed to express themselves and have a debate with a bit of humour as opposed to the all out nasty rows that appear on NR!

Maybe some of the bunnies will harden up a bit on HHO and some of the HHOers will become a bit softer around the edges
wink.gif
. That is what is great about forums

Ooooo how did you get on with clicker training? Heard mixed reviews for horses. I've said before I like to pick and choose and if I thought clicker training would benefit a particular horse it's something I'd think about. I knew a horse with who food rewards were a really bad idea and wondered if clicker reward would be good.

As for treeless, classic dressage and trec, I think you'll find loads of people do all three on here! lol We even have a couple of people who do the P word but they're not the scary P is the whole world and everything else is cruel kind, thank god! lol

I am possibly the most un fluffy person (positively scaley I would say). I answered the 'Do you love your horses?' thread with a firm 'NO'; I will not be pushed around by my horses; I don't credit them with human emotions and reasoning abilities and I don't do matching pink numnahs/boots/browbands and a rug for every possible weather variant (although I have no problem with people who do either
laugh.gif
)

I do, however, clicker train as I find it easier to work with the click being a bridge between correct behaviour and reward. One of my geldings gets a food reward when learning new things because he is very food motivated. He is also well mannered and has accepted the 'only treats when working'. The other is younger and not so well mannered so he gets physical rewards, like release of pressure or a nice scratch. I love watching horse behaviour and horse psychology at work. I am of the belief that understanding any 'foreigner's' language, be they a human, dog, cat or horse, can only lead to better communication.

I like it here on HHO, it can get a bit insane or overheated sometimes but on the whole it's a good place.
grin.gif

Now you see, I would say yes - I have loved horses (got no horsie at the moment so can't say that now
frown.gif
) However I love them in the sme way that I do my dog - as animals not furry people. On another doggie forum I go on there was a recent thread about how you sow your dog you love them - my answer was that I feed him, walk him, train him and give him a warm bed at night. My answer for horses would be similar. I am NOT pushed around by horses - IMO loving an animal means giving them leadership and boundaries to make sure that they can feel relaxed in a world that they can't understand - they don't need to worry because they know that I am there to deal with the scary stuff for them, so they can just chill.

I do love them - wouldn't call myself fluffy though!

I am also an ex-NR - I was Hannah:) on there but haven't posted for ages - I got fed up after being told off for being too judgemental of someone who had taken a pony on, not given it a chance to settle in, screwed it up then bottled it and sent it back! My opinion was that they shouldn't have bought the poor sod in the first place, which apparently was not on....

ETA: yes I do call them doglets, horselets, ponios etc... I don't do rugs though unless strictly needed, they are horses, they are waterproof, they will live, they will not freeze when the temperature drops below 15 degrees C....

Hi there, I've lurked here for years (I'm Skippys mum from NR). I'm also Lucyad's slightly fluffier pal (although we have a muuuuch fluffier one
laugh.gif
).

I am a proud owner and user of a carrot stick - but I also use spurs and a whip so I think I'm on the fence here.

I own Arnie, a 6 year old coloured cob who has been "challenging" but I think we are finally getting there.

I also have Bianco, a Welsh Sec A, who is my little princess
laugh.gif

I will be staying with NR because I owe it and the people on it a great deal but hey, there's always room for more internet in my life - I love my (pink) laptop!

I'm also 43 so perhaps that explains why I cant seem to work this forum
blush.gif

Looking forward to getting to know you

Hey Arniesmum! Someone i recognize from New Rider - I'm Fabio's filly! on there.

Funny to read all the different comments on here! I must admit, i've had some good advice off NR but i did used to just browse through what interested me and skip all the other stuff. And the site is a bit more user friendly than here - but sure i'll work my way around it in a few days!

And BTW - i always carry a whip, sometimes use spurs - but i do sometimes indulge the horses with a mince pie (Fabio's fave!), so does that make me a fluffy bunny?!?!

Just a point for all those struggling with HHO's format (which even i'll admit can be a pain and the red number issue is driving me mental!) there is apparently, according to admin, there is a major change in the pipline. So if you don't like it now, come back in a while and you never know!

BugseyZ - heeelp. I cant even find these threads again. I had to google myself on here to get back to this one???

Seriously? Are you honestly, truthfully disgusted?

My, you are VERY sensitive aren't you? All I've seen in the entire thread is some friendly poking of fun. If you truly ARE disgusted by the open exchange of opinions and POVs on this forum, then this is definitely not the place for you. Your loss *shrugs*
And as for your last comment.... well... LMAO!

Im an Ex-NR, and im not fluffy! I dont ride with a whip tho, but thats mainly because if I did I would be down the middle of the motorway somewhere and I regularly ride in a Pelham, and a Gag, a Mortal sin

And if you want to be truly nosey across all the forums just hit 'Active Topics' button at the top of the page - where your user name is and you get all the most recent postings everywhere. Then just click on the forum name in any post and it will take you to that forum or (obviously
tongue.gif
) you can just open the post by clicking on it.

Shils did I mention your name anywhere?
