help! how to give a fussy eater HUGE pills!!!

help? after jumping in the river onto what must have been a broken bottle our little springer ended up with stiches in her pad and a course of quite possibly the biggest pills ive ever seen!!! she is a very very fussy feeder as it is, costs an absolute fortune in pet mince, tinned dog food etc. does anyone have any tips on how to get her to take them? she wont even come to me, hasnt been to the loo in 24hrs....apart from peeing on my bed when i came in the room!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!
 
At this point i would probably go for the grab her route.

Grab her,
open mouth wide
put pill in back of mouth
hold mouth shut
stroke throat to encourage her to swallow.

Once she swallows let go and get her a big treat!
 
Our GSD is the world's worst for tablets but has to have them for life :(

Tip 1
Open mouth, shove at back of throat, clamp mouth shut firmly but gently, and stroke their throat until they start to lick their lips. Failing that, blow gently down their nose to encourage them to lick.

Tip 2
Shove tablet to back of throat as before, and squirt water down.

Tip 3
Smother tablet in jam or similiar and follow Tip 1!

another really easy way is to put pill in a small piece of tin foil, fold it up and then crush pill with the back of a spoon. you can put the powder on or in anything. Mine can not resist gravy.

read the inclosed leaflet before doing his as some tablets should not be crushed as they have coatings to protect the stomach etc.
 
I've had good luck with using hot dogs to disguise the pill. I cut off a small piece of sausage, cut a small slit for the pill and give it to the dog. A cube of cheese might work well too. If the pills are really huge maybe you could cut them in half to make it easier for you or crush them and mix with a bit of canned food if the vet oks that.
 
The 2 best methods I found with my staffie was

1. Crush pill and mix in with some Naturediet and feed as a special treat!

2. Add pill to a little freshly boiled water and dissolve then add some bovril or mix into some Nature diet

Just be careful because there are some pills you should NOT do this with. They have special coatings so that they protect the stomach lining or so that they are only absorbed further down the digestive tract. Check with your vet before you do this.

tried the hot dog....didnt like that!
put it down the throat and blew on her nose...she bit my nose!!!!! haha!!!!
shoved it down her throat....this worked great until she brought that along with her dinner up in my bedroom :) haha!!
i did however cook a tomato sauce, ( like the pasta ones) and she ate it all up yum yum!!!
should be back out hacking with me soon...........as soon as the horse is off box rest!!!!
